In our last class (I think it was last class), Sandy mentioned the Electronic Book Review. This is the search results for "Electronic Literature Collection" on the website. As he mentioned, not all works deal with electronic literature; however, a huge majority of the essays engage in discussions that are highly relevant to the discussions we are having in class. I'll also bookmark a couple of key essays and give a short blurb as to why I think you all might want to check them out.

Argument (with some decent solutions/suggestions) for making the transition from paper to electronic publications.

Consider Mcluhan's concept that electronic media creates a construct of the human nervous system. Here you'll see it in its literal form as the mapped out Internet.

I talked about this in class and I've posted on this before, but when I first posted this the idea was still in the inchoate stages of development. Now you can click on different chapters of the story and there will be a menu on the right hand side that shows animated versions of people added to the story. By clicking on this drawing, the story will advance to the period where this person makes a guest appearance and will show the real photo used for the drawing which is sometimes a facebook profile picture. Why I think this is especially interesting is that it has elements of IF that are in use in electronic literature, but it also creates a participatory community based around a specific exigency which is buying products from AXE.

Reminiscent of Goldsmith's idea of appropriation.  (Also, if I remember right, he mentions Satie during the book's opening chapters.)

In our reading this week, there is an emphasis on how the Electronic Literature Organization is working to preserve online narratives that somehow become out of date. Here is a huge reason why that is so important. As we move toward a dependence on mobile technology, Flash is officially out.

This is the hypertextual poem by Stephanie Strickland called "The Ballad of Sand and Harry Soot," to which Hayles refers in her article "Electronic Literature: What Is It?" Hayles's idea that we must recognize "the specificity of new media without abandoning the rich resources of traditional modes of understanding language, signification, and embodied interactions with texts" is absolutely at work in this poem.

Interesting in terms of our discussion on the democratic nature of electronic literature.

The Obama administration is banning hundreds of thousands of federal employees from calling up the WikiLeaks site on government computers because the leaked material is still formally regarded as classified. The Library of Congress tonight joined the education department, the commerce department and other government agencies in confirming that the ban is in place.

This is the social networking homepage of a online gaming website, IGN. I wanted to share this because it seems to overtly combine the gaming and social elements of social media. It also, similar to the AXE site, allows users to follow certain products and claim an identity based on what products the user owns in comparison to other members of the community. Within the site itself members have some level of gaining badges and competing by listing and comparing their games and interacting with each other. Also, on the level of competition, there are prizes available for different interactions on this site which further invokes the sense of gaming and competition.
