Alignment is the adjustment of an object in relation with other objects (wikipedia). You are aware of left alignment (often called left justify) and right alignment. By alignment here, we mean the way every element is positioned in comparison to the other element
Contrast in advertising. The background of the image is black which of course is going to mean that anything on the foreground will be easily seen. The product, which is the nail polish, is a bright red which stands out. The name of the product "Dior" is in a bold white lettering at the bottom.

This video is an automated short of one of the parts of Brooke Gladstone's book, The Influencing Machine. It is identical to the scene in the book but the added audio and animation made me understand the meaning and feeling behind the scene much more.
These beautiful abstract designs really keep the viewer's eye engaged and make the viewer think about their potential meaning. My personal favorite is the one for Conductor Universal. The colors really pop making it very aesthetically pleasing.
CONTRAST. This website also deals a lot with what contrast is but it mostly highlights why it's necessary for a format to have contrast in it. I like this website a lot and think that it's very straight to the point and concise with its purpose.
New Media: A very useful blog about new media and all aspects of it, including (but not limited to), those that Manovich discusses. The blog details the evolution of media and allows discussions about said subject.
This site is a blog where bloggers come to discuss issues about new media. The range of discussion includes anything from the real meaning of digital to the debate between the written word like newspapers versus the internet.
People are physically, psychologically, and socially influenced by color. Color has been found to have connections to health and it can help set the mood through which your designs are seen. << how color and contrast are beneficial to design.
This website shows how lines can effect the entire mood of a web page. It gives some great insights of when certain types of lines are appropriate in web design.
