In this article Brian Croxall introduces the three digital workshops that will be on display at the 2013 MLA. Coxwell gives the importance of each workshop and he explains how they can be helpful while using MLA formating in the classroom. The first workshop entitled Digital Pedagogy Unconference is popularized in academia and is targeted for people who have never used technology in the classroom. The second workshop welcomes scholars who wish to pursue or join digital scholarly projects but do not have the institutional infrastruce to support them. The last workshop entitled ThatCamp is an open, inexspensive meeting where humanists and technoligies of skill levels learn and build together in sessions proposede on the spot.

This brief article highlights one of the preconvention workshops that was available for MLA 2012. This workshop was hosted by DHCommons, a digital humanist project intended to facilitate the collaboration of either people in the field of digital humanities or people looking to break into the field. This information page on the NEH website is meant to explain the purpose of the Office of Digital Humanities within the National Endowment for the Humanities. It explains the impact that digital technology has had on how scholars do their work and explains that the ODH is meant to "support projects that employ digital technology to improve humanities research." This is done through government grants to those projects that the office sees as most deserving of aid in improving their work. The ODH also collaborates with the scholars and librarians in the DH field through conferences and workshops.

This is an opportunity for people who want to learn more about digital humanities and how to research and teach it. Digital expertises will show their digital projects and form small groups that shows technologies and skills to get started on their digital project. At the end of this event, participants will have a plan how to start their digital humanities project and have resources that can help them in their field.

The purpose of this power point presentation is to provide information on an alternative to XML called "Linked Data." The purpose of linked data is, according to the powerpoint, not to create "data silos" but to connect all these pieces of data together akin to hyperlinking. By digitizing materials in this manner, data can be more readily connected through the use of various identifiers such as Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI).

This is the main page of O'Reilly's website. He is a member of PeerJ's board and has contributed to many open access journals. His focus within DH seems to be the technical aspects, but he his a huge advocator for open access. There are many videos on this page of interviews he has give, videos of his lectures, articles written about him, and articles he has written. His main page also spot lights workshops, conferences, and articles concerning the future of open access, technology, ethical uses of technology, and technological business philosophy. O'Reilly is an extremely active member in the technological world, and is also instrumental in developing the tone for open access.

The Berkeley Folk Music Festival Collection is an archive of audio recordings, documents, film footage, and photographs from the Special Collections Library at Northwestern University. The archive's purpose is to preserve the collection, present it to a wider audience, interpret its significance and importance, and allow users to learn more about the cultural heritage and history in the digital age. It is also functioning as a sort of prototype for an historically-infused digital folk music festival and a research workshop.

Elizabeth Hopwood of Northeastern University blogs about the process of digitizing 19th century Caribbean texts for an archive. Due to her involvement in the archive, she was required to take a TEI encoding course along with others on the project so that they could learn to properly code everything themselves. As the workshop went on, she began to notice how intricate coding could be as well as how selective you must be in coding to choose what will be coded and what will not be coded. It is up to the individual coder to decide what kinds of things in the text need to be coded, whether that be mentions of gender, commodities, slaves, etc. She ends this blog post with some links to quick tutorials on TEI for those interested in getting into TEI coding for the Digital Humanities.

The main page for Stanford's CESTA is in a blog format. The moderator posts announcements, such as research positions that need to be filled, projects that they would like to 'spotlight,' and new/interesting information collected through one of the 3 projects. There are also posts of events/seminars/workshops/lectures/publications that relate either the subjects being researched in CESTA or about the digital humanities itself.

Sean Sherlocks speech at Digital Repository of Ireland, and international workshop, addressed the funding provided by sponsors. He states that they will use the funds to create multiple PhD positions specifically allocated towards the digital humanities and it's future in Ireland. He believes that these positions, and all research in digital humanities, well aid Ireland in becoming socially and economically an international powerhouse. He believes that work in the digital humanities will help create jobs, promote economic stability, and will put Ireland in the forefront of education.
