The United States government has been facing an intense amount of pressure, mostly from the entertainment and computer software publishing companies for years to find some method of stopping the online piracy that is allowing people to own copies of their merchandise for free.

PIPA is short for Protect IP Act and SOPA is short for Stop Online Piracy Act. They are both really big issues facing our world today. Many people are taking things illegally such as music, movies, software, and et cetera without paying for it. And now the government as well as the people who made all those things are fed up. For years people have tried to stop the hackers and now they are trying again. Will it work? Who knows.

This article discusses the SOPA and Project IP bills. Both bills are intended to stop online piracy and the SOPA bill has now been put onhold because so many have opposed the bill. Congress will need to make the bill more focused before trying to pass it agian.

SOPA is bill designed to stop foreign websites that promote piracy. In doing so, websites would be prohibitted from showing advertisements to links with pirated content. This bill is still waiting to be voted on.

Although SOPA has been defeated, there's a new bill on the rise. The Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act (OPEN) is the next option in the pipeline, claiming to offer a more reasonable solution to internet piracy.
