Automobile Searches legal definition of Automobile Searches - 2 views

  •
Balancing the Fourth Amendment rights and the need for law enforcement to obtain useful evidence is very difficult. in many cases, law enforcement officials have not been able to secure the evidence needed to proceed with the conviction process of suspects.
  •
I understand an automobile is private property but I don't see the problem with searches. If someone is worried about their vehicle being searched than there is probably something in there that shouldn't be and it needs to be searched!
  •
I agree searches should be allowed in investigations. Our rights are ment to protect us, but many want to use it for selfish reasons.

Why Airport Security is broken and how to fix it. - 1 views

  •
published Aprl. 15, 2012 ; how the TSA can elimate the banned item list and become a little more fluid in the items they disallow to carry.
  •
It is broke. I think we should look at the way Israel handles their airport security.
  •
I looked up how Israel handles with airport security & find this news article: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2011/01/whats_so_great_about_israeli_security.html Sadly, I was not aware of Israel's security. However, I relate to this a great deal since this past May & June I went to Afghanistan - and I was traveling with an Afghan citizen. I understand why they would be more cautious. Our coming back flight stopped in Dubai and we expected to have problems coming into the USA, but we also faced issues in Amsterdam. We were questioned a little longer than the other people - almost missed the flight because of it, twice - in Amsterdam & in the USA to coming to Phoenix. However, it did not bother us - we knew we would face issues. I don't even know how many times I was x-rayed - or how much time we spent talking to officials a little longer than everyone else and it happened everywhere we stopped, not only in the USA! I agree with these terms of not being so strict when leaving the USA, but coming back I could understand why the security was a little tighter.

  •
CIO - Worries have been steadily growing among European IT leaders that the USA Patriot Act would give the U.S. government unfettered access to their data if stored on the cloud servers of American providers—so much so that Obama administration officials this week held a press conference to quell international concern over the protection of data stored on U.S.

Legistlaters try again for guns on campus - 0 views

Governor Brewer apprehensions on the previous bill were the rights were not spelled out distinctly. She indicated the law could have applied to elementary and high school campuses. The National Rifle Association is in support of the purposed bill. Lawmakers supposedly held assemblies with University and Police officials. January 9th the bill was introduced to the legislature. Supposing the bill passes into law, Arizona would be marked as one out of the only five states where guns are allowed on a college campus.

California Town Considering Total Outdoor Smoking Ban - Even on Private Property - 0 views

  •
It's already against the law for smokers to light up near businesses, parks and playgrounds in California, but one town is now considering a total outdoor smoking ban - even on private property - all at one family's request. City officials in Rocklin, Calif. are weighing the Baker family's complaint about smoke drifting into their [...] It is an upsetting article about a family that is trying to get smoking banned from private property. Their neighbors smoke and it is affecting the family of non-smokers. Not too much info but gives insight on what people are trying to do out there to limit our personal choice of smoking.

Do Stop-and-Frisk's in New York City Amount to Racial Profiling? - 0 views

  •
New York's stop and frisk policy has led to racial profiling and targeting of law abiding minority citizens.
  •
New York City made stop and search laws in belief that it would lower the rate of violent crimes. Stop and frisk laws allow police to pat down any suspicious person. The amount of people being stopped has reached a high number. Of those many people, it seems that law enforcement is singling out certain races. These races being mainly Latino or African American.
  •
This article argues the fact that the "stop-and-frisk" program implemented in the beginning of the 1990's doesn't help in reducing crime rate; however, there are substantial evidence that say it has been used by NYPD officials as a way of discrimination towards minorities.

Arizona passes tough illegal immigration law - 0 views

  •
I don't agree with the "second hand that follows" with this law of racial profiling. But then again profiling is part of law enforcements job. There is nothing wrong for a police officier just asking for a citizenship card, green card, visa, or regular identification, if suspected. But if it goes further then i think that it is wrong.

Libertarians And Gay Marriage - 0 views

  •
With the help of libertarians New York was the largest state to legalize same sex marriage. New York is only the sixth state to legalize same sex marriage. Many power officials were reprimanded for speaking out against same sex marriage. Same sex marriage has also affected some religious adoption agencies. A catholic adoption agency has been reprimanded for refusing the adoption to a same sex family.
  •
This article shows how the Libertarian party has very conflicting views regarding same sex marriage. On one hand, same sex marriage corresponds with the Libertarian motto. On the other hand, however, many Libertarians are torn between their party's motto and what they inherently believe to be "true marriage."

How Dumb Are We? - 0 views

They're the sort of scores that drive high-school history teachers to drink. When NEWSWEEK recently asked 1,000 U.S. citizens to take America's official citizenship test, 29 percent couldn't name the vice president. Seventy-three percent couldn't correctly say why we fought the Cold War. Forty-four percent were unable to define the Bill of Rights.
