NCES Kids' Zone Math Skills - 0 views

This site was created by the National Center for Education Statistics. While it is aimed towards children, teachers can use this website to spark ideas when teaching probability and graphing in mathematics. By clicking on 'Graph' on the top toolbar, students can enter data and decide to create pie charts, bar graphs, line graphs, and more. The site provides math teasers, quizzes, and even allows children to explore probability through a game using dice. The dice game allows you to see how increasing or decreasing the number of dice rolls affects an outcome. This would be a great site to have students access sometime throughout the year when focusing on graphing and probability!

AAAmath is very user friendly as it is sorted by grade level and subject. Here is what AAA math says about their website: "AAA Math features a comprehensive set of interactive arithmetic lessons. Unlimited practice is available on each topic which allows thorough mastery of the concepts. A wide range of lessons (Kindergarten through Eighth grade level) enables learning or review to occur at each individual's current level. Immediate feedback prevents practicing and learning incorrect methods, which is a common result of traditional homework and worksheets. Practice can continue as long as desired in a non-threatening format which helps build self-esteem and confidence."

Aplusmath is a website to help students improve their math skills interactively. There is a game room, flashcards, and puzzles for students. For teachers and parents there are a number of worksheets and flashcards that you can create for students to practice offline. A few of the worksheets that can be generated have an easy, medium, and hard difficulty level. You can use those in order to have a challenging worksheet for students that are more advanced. Likewise, you can also use the lower level worksheet for students who are having difficulties with the concept.

Watch 'n Learn Math Clips - 0 views

This is an interesting sight which was created by a gifted teacher's mathematics class. The students put together short video explanations of different math concepts, much like those which were are currently creating in class. These videos are interesting to watch, and they show the students line of thinking and reasoning behind different mathematic concepts. They can also provide insight as you think about how to explain these concepts to your students in a way that is relatable and understandable. The video topics include geometry, multiplication, decimals, divisions, and fractions amongst others.

Math Playground is another interactive computer activity site. This is a great site for students to go onto and use a protractor on the computer or even play a game with real life examples. I thought that this would be a great website to use for our students if they have free time or even as a center for students in the classroom.

Women in Mathematics - Early Female Mathematicians - 0 views

This URL is from About.com, so it does not have lesson plans or activities. However, my LEA e-mail today mentioned the need for young girls to be aware of female professions in the STEM program, particularly in Math. So, I thought why not include this website. Students can do a little research of their own on Hypatia of Alexandria, Mary Fairfax Somerville, and Alicia Stott to name a few. Under each of the ten females is a little background information. Underneath that is a link that takes you to more in-depth information and even other websites!!
