More people have been arrested in recent years for sexually soliciting youths online, but the sharp increase comes from better enforcement, and the internet remains a relatively safe social environment, researchers said in a new study.

J.ot Down is a simple Internet-based notepad. Here are some simple instructions: 1) Open j.otdown.com in your browser. 2) Start typing. 3) Pause for a moment (or hit "Save") and J.ot Down will save your note and give you a permanent link for it (as seen in your browsers location bar) 4) Continue to edit your note or share it (or a read-only version) with your friends. 5) Bookmark your note for later access or just start another one.

This is a list of sites compiled by librarians to safe use internet sites. A great reference for school administrators, techies and teachers. It is a maintained directory of sorts and you can submit safe sites.

Information Literacy Games: Finding Kermit This blog post features a great video of Kermit the frog singing It Ain't Easy Being Green. It follows up with an explanation of a search game that can be used with the whole class in a lab or on an individual workstation. It's part of a free series of online information literacy / information fluency games available from 21cif.com. Finding Kermit was the inspiration for one of the first Internet Search Challenges created by Dr. Carl Heine. The task is to track down a picture of Kermit ready for graduation in the least amount of time. The search game is embedded on the page so you can try it without going to the main site. Many teachers use this as a whole class lab activity. Put up a search challenge and then it's off the races! Most of these games were developed for middle and high school students. Adults find them challenging as well.

This is an intelligent spelling and grammar checker which sits in the background in Office and your browser until you need it. Any internet search will show that there are a huge number of online tools available for the creation on polls and surveys. The ones included here are some of the best I have used and show some of the variety of polling tools available.

In a world where anyone with an internet connection can access, create and share information, opinions and beliefs, it has become increasingly important that students are not only able to assess the credibility of sources but also to look more deeply at the underlying motivations, beliefs and bias of the creator.
