Collaborative writing and editing continues to move into the classroom. If the pundits didn't like wikipedia, what about a dictionary that students build for themselves? "The purpose of this project is to create a free, open simple dictionary for students to use. This dictionary will ultimately be published in a variety of formats and for multiple platforms.  To add to this project, find a word you'd like to write a definition for or click "Instant Karma" for a random word. This is the current tag dictionary -- we really only get 17 that show up and I had to truncate the names -- but if you join the group and send pages to the group when you bookmark these tags will come up.

This is the page where I set up the dictionary for educators -- it may or may not let non administrators see it, however, I wanted to TRY to share it with the group.

Mnemonic Dictionary (MD) helps in learning and remembering word and it's meaning easily by providing memory aids (called mnemonics) for each word. Mnemonics connect to-be-remembered meaning of words with a systematic and organized set of images or words that are already firmly established in long-term memory and can therefore serve as reminder cues.

term.ly is the companion website for the terminology app for the ipad/ iphone. You can also shorten and share definitions. The main problem I had is if you use a diigo box, the search box tries to take over the words. Nice clean dictionary.

A great spelling resource from the Oxford English Dictionary. Listen to words and try to spell them at three levels of difficulty. Choose between British and US spelling. Dictionary of American Sign Language (could be useful for teaching students sign to use for classroom management purposes)
