My Adventures in Educational Technology: iPod Touch and iPads in the Classroom - List o... - 3 views

  • The best app I have found for voice recording and being able to use the audio elsewhere is called iPro Recorder because you can download the recording over a wireless network onto a computer and re-edit it in a program like Garage Band or Audacity. I found that Audioboo is a great site to host podcasts and share them with others. You can also easily embed them on your blog, wiki or website.
  • Some of the other resources I have come across since my last post that you might find useful are: Apptivities - A great website with reviews and activity ideas for the use of apps by educators organized by grade level. How to Trigger Students' Inquiry Through Projects | MindShift - 0 views

  •
We have condensed the project design process into six steps. After outlining the steps briefly below, we offer examples that show how one might use these steps to develop a germ of an idea into a project plan that emphasizes inquiry. Read the steps and examples all the way through before digging in to your own plan.

This is about inquiry through project based learning. The steps to start designing your projects are an excellent place for you to think about your inquiry learning outline for Assignment 2.

Numeracy In Our Lives - 2 views

  •
A video that could be used to get students thinking about the number of ways in which we use mathematics in everyday situations. It has been designed so that teachers can pause the video at certain intervals for students to discuss some open-ended questions and to work through some of the mathematics problems in their own way. The idea behind this is for the audience to recognise that we all have different perspectives when it comes to mathematics and different ways of working through mathematics problems or tasks... there is more than one way of thinking about numeracy and solving mathematics problems!

I Declare an… iPad Oath - 0 views

  •
Last year the middle school felt a need to create an iPad Oath that addressed specific classroom behaviors and legislated appropriate use beyond the existing R.U.G. (Responsible Use Guidelines). After reviewing multiple middle school AUP's and iPad forms online and our own existing elementary iPad Oath, I decided to concoct one of my own using similar ingredients. (The back of the form includes a space for both parent and student signature.)

My Top 3 Brainstorming Tools « Ed Tech Ideas - 0 views

  •
I've always liked Inspiration and Kidspiration for quick, easy to use ways of brainstorming. But with a $900 price tag for a 20 computer license, there just didn't seem to be any reason to pay that money when there are several robust, free alternatives. In the past couple of years, these alternatives have come close to matching, and in many aspects, surpassing what Inspiration and Kidspiration can do to help students organize their thoughts. Here are my three favs, with a few honorable mentions thrown in to boot.

A useful website that reflects on the Australian curriculum, ICT use in the classroom and TPACK.
  •
    Thanks Ayako. Very interesting indeed.
  •
Thanks for sharing Ayako! I've only had a quick look at this resource, but it looks like it could be very helpful - particularly some of the lesson ideas which work in with the TPACK model and clearly highlight how the outcomes of the Australian Curriculum are being met.

The "Alice Project" - 2 views

  •
A Project completed by American students using blogs
  •
This is a really cool idea. It's so great to read about everyone's different perspectives on Alice in Wonderland. I really like the point that one of the students in the video makes - the teacher wasn't the one with the answers - they didn't insinuate to the students the type of things they should be analysing or the conclusions they should draw etc it was up to the students to analyse the story in their own way and to draw their own conclusions. Thanks for sharing :)

'Are we there yet?' - 1 views

  •
This numeracy stimulus video explores the answers to every child's problem, and indeed their parent's, of the amount of time it takes to arrive at a destination when driving. Considering the variables of speed and distance, what is the amount of time for our travellers to arrive at their destination?
  •
This video is a great resource for an upper primary classroom and provides opportunities for critical thinking and offers ideas for extension activities.

  •
This numeracy video was created for educational purposes and designed for students teachers and parents to use as a resource when teaching fractions in a junior primary setting. Our video aims to communicate the importance of numeracy as a life skill as it shows how numeracy can be used beyond the classroom. For example, real life situations such as baking a chocolate cake :)

This video could be used as part of numeracy learning experiences, either as a base to a numeracy lesson, lesson introduction, or lesson idea. It could also encorporate cross curricula links to subjects such as ICT and Home Economics!
