Hi guys. This is not and I repeat not a video you want to watch in total. I was trying to fix my sound and needed a video to put on the site, so I could ask you if it was better than the sound on my final presentation. So if you can find the time to give a listen...I would truly appreciate it1
Amen. One day when working on the crisis line at the office of EDVP, a woman called me regarding her daughter and a incident of bullying. I gave her tons of resources and some of them were geared toward her 6 -10 year old daughter.
Thanks for your comments Ann. I still made a mistake when I stated Elluminate was asychronous instead of synchronous...I was not going to do it over again! I keep doing takes for several hours until I liked the tone of my voice and was so tired it had to be a "wrap!"
I chose Jing and and have Jing Pro which allows me to seamlessly upload to You Tube and make video. I hope to use this tool in class for short instructive videos per module. The student can reach me by email, Skype, Elluminate or by cell ( whihc I hope to discourage a bit). I want to make certain they feel I am there and connected to them at all times.
During our next class meeting on the 22nd, I want to make a camcordering of the class and upload it to jing and make a You Tube video for us to review and enjoy. I hope your willing!
Thanks Bruce. The boomers are fighters and leaders! As women,"... we have come a long way baby." There is not anything bad about the picture my friend. Once you start to really read the material and connect with the accomplishments of this group, I bet money you will be very proud!
My advice to my classmates is not to do what I did in this blog, unless you are contemplating an F. Sorry Jen, I meant no real offence. I loved your class! You did say you would help me with Jing. I did feel I needed more help; but it was me speaking mostly from my frustration!
Jen...you absolutely did not let me down. You did what you were suppose to do...Let me find my way through Jing or ask others or go to search sites on how to!!! I want to be a bit more present for my learners; but if you do that you walk a fine line between causing dependency and allowing them the freedom to find their own way. You will not always be available when I struggle with a new program. You have taught us to find out about these things on our own.
I simply did not know where or what I did not know. I found out and now I really feel I have accomplished something and am not afraid to try new things.
I wanted to say goodbye and have a close for this class. I ran across this voice thread and thought...no one could have said it better! So to you all...see above link.
What deeply saddens me is technical and community colleges may give you the skills; but then they may drop the ball by not helping beyond that point. Without internships and situations for obtaining experience...one cannot overcome the obstacle of needing experience in the field. Same goes for my hope to teach...which may just be a dream I am holding onto with no basis in reality. Then the feds paid for the courses, the college got the money and I am in fact the loser.
For your funny bone. It is true UFOs and alien life in the universe exists and give testimonials to online teaching. Okay so sue me...I watch Ancient Aliens! :)
I loved your comments Ann and your gave me my laugh for the day! Lord, I know what sitting on the computer at 2 AM in my pj's looks like!! I have to admit if people I knew saw me they would think I looked alien. I loved it! I cannot go through a day without humor or I would have looked more deeply into the Japanese Hari Kari.
First of all, it is a video that you have to want to view. Students may or may not view it. It shoud be informative; but not mandatory. That way, those who are truly interested will watch and those that are not will not. The same can be said about those who have the time. There is a little nav tool under the video to Fast Forward as well. Hour long videos should be presented to those who want an official or gov reponse to a need or issue. Resources are optional or can be made optional. I would not want to limit the possibilities of my learners!
I am sharing a video I made for the class project. I welcome any critiques or information on how to make this a better video. I do not know if I have addressed all the elements Jen has asked for. I tried to address as many as I could...except those I will learn about in Module 8. This was my first attempt in making a eLearning video on You Tube, with the help of Jing and Screencast. I found a few frustrations along the way; but it was fairly easy to use. I have the following probs: 1.) I could not fit the screen to the screen used in You Tube; 2.) I had problems setting the volume controls on my recording; 3.) I found myself unable to think as fast as the video was going and 4.) the overall quality of the screen when used" full screen" was not as good as I would have liked it to be. Finally, I have never ( well maybe not NEVER) had so darn much fun doing something so darn frustrating at times.
Using a headset doesn't get the kind of result I want. However, I will try to do that the next time around. I have found this to be a problem when I made the elluminate recording, too.
I could think you must be a fan Mary Ann! I really don't know what I am doing when I start these projects...they just sort of do themselves. My husband just shakes his head and ignores me. His computer is in our office. It is L shaped and I am on one side and he is on the other on the inside side of the L.That way we can't see each other...it keeps me from being tempted to do things to him, I might not want others to know about ( I am saying this while I untangle my fingers from his neck...at the moment.)
I have added my page on Wikispace. I have a video I want my learners to view. I have asked them to research the topic and present their blogs, videos and etc.,in Diigo. I have asked them to discuss this Module's question on the need or not for a Silver College similiar to the one in Japan for aging Japanese people. Japan is one step ahead of the U.S. in trying to deal with the many issues and needs of their aging population. Grading or assessment will be determined by the quality of the participation and discussion in Diigo. The Module discussion would be set up to continue for one week and is 25% of that Module's grade. The idea is not to grade the students but to encourage them to research the topic and bring to the discussion some ideas as to whether this is a useful idea or not if applied to the Senior population in America.
I will be writing a blog regarding this lesson as well. I have not finished it yet.
Joined Twitter today! Since I really don't know how to use this, I have emailed Jen to see what her Twitter name is. In case anyone wants to connect mine is : eLearningJoy
I have joined this learning community. My membership is still pending. I think this will be a source of valuable information. This one did not cost to join. There was another learning community that cost $45.00 per year. I do not have the funds to do this.
