I do not believe learners will cheat if they are made to feel they are capable learners with something to offer society, each other and their community. Also, seeing the consequences of cheating in their lives might make them think twice about it. Cheating denies each of us the right to self respect and earning what we have achieved, through hard work and desire to learn. Maybe cheating has more to do with the institution and instructors or professors than the learners.
The advantage of using Diigo for posts instead of Blackboard, is when it goes away at the end of the quarter, we will have all our links and research and comments in Diigo. We can then refer to them whenever we need the information posted.
I have not felt a feeling of bonding with my peers or other students in the class until I was in Norma and Sam's class. By the end of that class, I had reached a point of community or collaborative essence with three or four of the students. In this class, it seems we are often not on the same page. But, I have decided it is because of the diversity within the course. I also think it takes more than one course to bring people to the point of open rapport and deep discussion. 12-13 weeks just doesn't seem like enough time.
Ann when it comes to distraction, I just allow so much information in. If there is a post I cannot read because of time restrictins, I open it later on break. I don't get distracted in studies. I don't have enough time to do that.
I read the assignment about assessment and suddenly thought...this is really crap! I dislike the whole concept of grades. In fact, this video shows that if you really want to assess assessment...what you need to do is teach the most difficult class and find a way to help all students learn it. Learning is a process. I think you cannot learn as much without the help or couching of an instructor or professor. If they show you what concepts they want you to learn...every step along the way, through course design and asking questions to stimulate thought, learners will learn even the most difficult concepts and apply them.. Feedback is essential. Not just feedback; but feedback that helps the learner build on what they already know and move forward. Interactive learning with others continues the process and helps give the learner even more ways to continue the learning process.
I dislike being graded! Yet the grade factor has given me a reason to dig deeply into any studies I take. I wanted to be in charge of my learning and assess myself...unfortunately, I set standards far higher than any instructor would.
This is the activity for Module 5. I really like this open learning system. If you go to my blog you will find that they ( Canvas) will work with you whether you buy their system or not. Please watch video #2 on my blog.
(Note: I wrote the last two paragraphs on my blog here. Then I cut and pasted it to my blog because it took up too much space on Diigo.)
Good point Ann. Looking where the money stops often tells the whole story. As Pol Sci major you can guess what I think of politicians handling anything to do with non--profit education or public to be exact.
This is what teaching is all about. Each day I see children exposed to violence and see the injustices when they and the survivor are sent to the streets for lack of housing. They must go to food banks to beg for food. Really! These are the children we are teaching to tackle the worlds problems when we are gone. How is our behavior different from our words?
I am still somewhat confused. I understand the goals and objectives process; however, I am missing the piece on understanding understandings, because I know nothing about assessment.
Each day I read more and view more videos outside the class. I am learning quite a bit about Ubd and assessment and will take the next course on my way to the certification. There is nothing, so far, that has been presented that has not lead to deeper meaning and understanding of the process of online teaching.
