The K-12 Horizon Report suggested SWIFT as a site to aid teachers in communication via the web with their students and parents. SWIFT stands for Simplified Web Interface for Teachers. For schools that do not have their websites set up for teachers to have their individual pages, this is a great solution. Teachers are able to design a site without needing to know HTML or software programs and are able to post announcements, assign homework, start discussions and give practice quizzes. SWIFT can be integrated with an existing site and created with the same color and design scheme to fit in with a present district site. Having created websites before, I think options like this are fabulous for creating a decent-looking and usable site.

This site provides free and simple "printables" for teachers. It is more of a resource for the teacher than for the student, but in my classroom, that's what is going to be most practical most often.

You can also use this website to play games and work with finance (money) type problems, and then it also gives lesson plans and worksheets. There is a link for parents, students, and teachers and each one is available to everyone without any passwords or registration. This is nice so that not only the teacher but also for parents to see at home to try and assist their children if they are having problems at home with homework or a problem. My second reason for choosing this website is not only does it offer a lot of tools a teacher can use, but it gives other sites-for information as well. For example, if you search Special Education in the tool bar it will give you options where you can read about disorders and disabilities, it also gives you the possibility to join groups such as, Special Education Support Groups. It's kind of like Skype but it's more for educational use. I was thinking about using this tool in my classroom and perhaps videoconferencing with my sister and mom who are also elementary music teachers. Maybe I could set it up so that we co-teach a lesson on music together, or maybe sing a duet with the other classroom of music students using the videoconferencing. It'd be fun for the kids to see other kids in music that are all the way in the southwest corner of the United States, since my sister teaches in Arizona. This would be something I'd definitely think about using.

Capzles is a unique timeline type of Web 2.0 tool that lets you create unique storylines by implementing images, video, and audio files directly into the timeline. Currently, Capzles is absolutely free and there are no downloads or plug-ins required to use the tool. The way I could use this website/timeline tool is by asking the students to look back at their earlier years of life and record when they think they started using each level of math up to where they are today. I will write down what level of math they did by talking to their previous teachers to find out what they learned. I will then compare what they actually did to what they thought they did.

If we have the fortunate ability to have computers in the classroom this site would provide many activities for kids to enjoy in groups or individually. I believe it would be fun for the students which would encourage learning.

I feel like this would be very good to use as a resource in my classroom. As a middle school math teacher, I will be using a lot of algebra in my class. This website helped me when I was in school and I know I will utilize it when I become a social studies teacher. It gives good practice and speaks the name so you will also learn in an auditory fashion as well
