European Virtual Museum - 0 views

The European Virtual Museum is a free website, which would be great in a social studies classroom where the teacher would have the chance to show students various artifacts of European history in 3D that they may or may never see otherwise. One important thing to point out is that users must have and be familiar with Quick Time technology to view and manipulate the size or them. position of the artifacts.

Stories About History -- National Geographic Kids - 0 views

This free website provides innovative way for students to enhance their knowledge in Science, Social Studies and beyond. It provides games as well as videos that will promote investigative learning among students of all ages. If an educator chooses to utilize this site, it would be very helpful if the educator knew the concept as this website has many activities and links. It is fairly easy to navigate. The colors may not be as appealing as other websites, but the content of this site is very effective when being utilized as a learning tool. This particular site is designed for students in grades k-8, depending on the content.

OurTimeLines.com - Create Timeline - 0 views

OurTimeLines.com is a useful website for social studies classrooms who wish to connect history to their students lives. It is a free site (and there is a whole page on the site dedicated to explaining how and why it is free) that allows users to create timelines from 1000 A.D. to current times in history, then add their own events relating to their lives or to those of their ancestors. I believe that it could appeal to users, specifically students because it involves them in creating history and relating it to their lives, their ancestors' lives, or their interests. It is not the most aesthetically appealing website; it is not created or managed by a large corporation, so the platform is not what one would expect from a professional website, but because I discovered this site through one of our class textbooks, I believe this to still be a good site. Its information says it is up-to-date, and it has a great page for feedback with other user comments. I believe this could likely be used for any age, though teachers would need to help younger users more. I think this would be appealing to students because it involves them in a history lesson and gives them a chance to use an easy technology in class.

Kids.gov - Social Studies (Grades K - 5) - 0 views

This website would be great to use for web quests. It is a website created for kids to obtain knowledge about historical figures and events. It is also categorized for primary to middle school. This site lists governmental sites that are kid friendly and and also allows students to upload reports as well. I find this site particularly useful because each age group as well as the educator have separate links that can be accessed and used for educational purposes. This site also provides visitors to make suggestions on how this site can be improved. I think this is extremely helpful because you get the opinions of the students as well. This site is essential when learning about laws and constitutional vocabulary that may sometimes not be fully explained in the textbook.
