Many people believe that child labor and abuse is something of the past, but there could not be more of a false statement. Around the world children are being marginalized, and abused, and forced into labor. Children in Africa are being forced to join the military and kill children and adults alike. Other children are living on the streets because their parents' lives were taken by the AIDS virus. And due to India's class system, young children will live in poverty with no possible way of hope in the future. Children are even forced into prostitution and labor. Childhood deformities and disabilities cause affected children to live in isolation and cause pain and suffering for both them and their families.

Yahoo BOSS allows developers to create their own customized search apps based on Yahoo's search engine, and the Google App Engine is a platform for hosting apps. Vik Singh, the engineer who leads the Yahoo Boss project (and a former Google engineer) created a simple Question-Answering Service, where you put in a question, and it tries to come up with the answer based on the top 50 results from Yahoo. (So, if you ask, "Who invented the light bulb?," it looks for the most popular dates in the top 50 results and returns: "Thomas Edison").
The Maker Movement is not easily defined nor placed neatly into a nice little box. It can be high tech or low tech; hacking what is or creating from scratch; it can be creating from building and arts materials or creating on the computer.
