Of interest may be a look at the following site. EQ has done a range of research around the area of 1:1. It has recently released a 1:1 Smart Classrooms Byte on the topic which may help in some ways answer some of the issues on 1:1. The website is: http://education.qld.gov.au/smartclassrooms/strategy/dp/one-2-one.html The downloadable PDF titled "Smart Classrooms Byte: 21 Steps to 21st Century 1-to-1 Success" is listed in the first line. On the page is also some base information on the trials currently underway using some of the Ultra mobiles mentioned in this thread (i.e. eeePC, etc)

A Real Solution For Classroom Teachers The Solution Site is filled with K-12, hands-on, problem based thematic units with real world relevance. Invite your students to apply 21st Century skills and tools in your classroom everyday by incorporating lessons from The Solution Site into your teaching.

Ideas I'm thinking of sharing on SEEDLINGS Oct. 30th.

* In spending so much time to create (shallow?) connections with such a wide range of educators on a global level, isn't it possible that one might also neglect local relationships that are equally (if not more) important? * What can we do to consistently maintain a healthy perspective? Shifting gears to a higher plane: * Do we really think that all teachers need to be this connected? * Can every teacher (human being) handle all of the information? Are they "bad teachers" if they can't? * And what about those teachers that take 25 minutes just to create a Gmail account (PEBKAC)? Will it really be worth my time - and theirs - to help them enter the 21st Century? Or are the benefits of such efforts simply not worth the costs? I guess what I'm really wondering is this: * Is it ever OK to simply leave some teachers behind?

The 21st Century Information Fluency Project (21CIF) began in 2001 when the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy received funds from the US Department of Education to research and develop training in the largely unexplored field of online information literacy. The mission then, which remains today, is provide professional development and resources to help educators and students improve their ability "to locate, evaluate and use digital information more effectively, efficiently and ethically." Great site to learn all about information literacy!

Great description of how one school district is using Google Apps for lifelong learning and teaching. Wonderful embedded video on advantages to migrating over to Google Email for educational institutions. Terrific description of how this school district in Maine is creating a scaffolded portfolio system that gives students increasing responsibility over their portfolio as they move from one grade level to the next, culminating in providing each graduating senior with his/her own domain name to use as their '21st century business card'.
