The National Education Technology Plan is the flagship educational technology policy document for the United States. The 2016 Plan, Future Ready Learning: Reimagining the Role of Technology in Education, articulates a vision of equity, active use, and collaborative leadership to make everywhere, all-the-time learning possible. This recently published plan provides guidance and recommendations for use of technology in education. The report is separated in sections, with the Teaching section being a wonderful place to start for teachers looking for ways to learn, as well as innovative models from other teacher-leaders.

The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational Technology published a 2017 update to their 2016 National Education Technology Plan Update (NETP): Reimagining the Role of Technology in Education: 2017 National Education Technology Plan Update. The Director of the Office of Education Technology at the time, Joseph South, noted in the report, " Feedback from our stakeholders indicates that the previous five year update cycle was not frequent enough. In response, with this 2017 update, we commence a pattern of yearly, smaller scale updates to the NETP to better account for the pace of innovation in the field."

The United States Department of Education's Office of Educational Technology has published a resource, Building Technology Infrastructure for Learning, that offers practical and actionable guidelines for educators and school leaders to help them provide Internet access to learners and make decisions regarding technology services. The guidebook is an excellent resource for anyone needing to understand or to create an acceptable use policy (AUP).

This is a great resource created by the EPA to help educators teach their students about the environment. It provides lesson plans and resources, as well as videos, games and even project ideas that students will love. Great page for anyone teaching about human impact on the environment.

Want to learn more about air pollution? or you want to see evidence and data? This is the place to start your search. A great resource for students to research environmental topics themselves.

The site contains information on a variety of initiatives. Openly Licensed Educational Resources (OER) is one of those initiatives that may serve as an excellent resource for teachers.

This paper not only defines a PLN and the value that can be brought to teachers through participation, but it also reviews three popular PLNs: Classroom 2.0, Edmodo, and The Educator's PLN. Lastly, it discusses design aspects that facilitate communication, sharing, and learning.

I like this article because it gives teachers like myself, a practical application of PLNs. I've heard of Edmodo and looked into using it, but not the other two (Classroom 2.0 and The Educator's PLN) resources that are discussed in the article. However, as I was researching PLNs I did come across the PLN website. I'm sure I could have found some useful information on it, but I was looking for articles that explain the theories. This article looks at the effects of personal learning networks on students. It describes a research study that found PLNs help students to get together to work through information and understand the content on a new level. The study used tools that are mostly free and online such as Google Docs.

Teachers are developing PLNs to connect with other educators and professionals all over the world to stay up to date on their teaching methods and resources. This article gives an overview of why many teachers belong to a PLN and why it is beneficial to their professional goals. I appreciated that the author named and discussed three popular PLNs that I plan on looking into further. They were Classroom 2.0, Edmodo, and The Educator's PLN. I agree with the author completely when he states that "teachers are lifelong learners." This article is a great read for those new to PLNs.

I loved all of the information on the various tools that can used in managing a PLN, There were several tools I wasn't familiar with and look forward to being able to use in the future.

I found this post to be extremely informative regarding how teachers can use PLNs for learning, moreover for modeling learning for their students. The social network portion of this article was authentic to the purpose of this course and aided in making connections regarding the usage of social networks for educational learning tasks. The review of the three PLNs was also helpful as we navigate this course and begin to implement strategies and plans for the incorporation of social networking into our own classrooms.

This article expresses the use of Communities of practice as a part of the healthcare sector. I enjoyed reading about the similarities of needs among these professions and education, as all professionals should be involved in various communities of practice.
