Twitter of #organellewars - 0 views

  •
I don't know if this link will actually work- I'm trying to bookmark #organellewars because this brilliant teacher set up a way for his students to collaborate with real scientists who work on organelles. Together the scientists and students collaborate via twitter. The conversations are amazing. If nothing else, put #organellewars in a Twitter search.

ePals Global Community - 0 views

  •
This is a website where teachers advertise their classroom because they are looking for ePals for their students. This is one way to have students connect with studnets the same age who live in a different part of the US or worldwide. The intent of this "page" is to help match up partners. At the moment there are about 20 "pages" of teachers listed who are interested in doing this with students ranging from elementary school age to college.

Moving at the Speed of Creativity | Alexander and Sarah share favorite books - 0 views

  •
This is a blog that highlights innovative ideas. This page emphasizes digital storytelling projects they had students create to promote how amazing the books were that they read. They present their digital analysis of the book in VoiceThread so that other students can make comments and discuss the themes, characters, plots, or whatever they want to share about the book.

PBworks looks like a Learning Management System that can be used for free, however the collaborative parts require a subscription. For $99/ year you get security, control over who sees your pages, storage space, and the collaborative perks.

This website organizes groups of four students to work collaboratively to create a blog. Each student is in charge of writing to the blog for one week, others make comments during their "off" weeks. The cycle continues for 4 months.

This started as a project among edubloggers and has now expanded beyond the original 50 who started it. It is an excellent example of what could be done as a classroom assignment- having students photograph something relevant to your content matter and upload it to a Flickr site. Being a Flckr site, discussion is available.

NGHS-Science - home - 1 views

This is an example of how a science department is using wikispaces to organize the curriculum for many of their classes. I was hoping to find teachers using wikispaces the way I was originally taught to use them- as a place for students to collaborate and build a wiki together. You can see what I wrote for an assignment, but I don't have any students with whom to use it: http://learningsciencealacarte.wikispaces.com/Biological_Molecules

Connectivism. vs. Constructivism - 2 views

  •
Two more of those "C" words- helping to discern between them. The argument here is that connectivism is new, thus the misspelled word suggestion every time I type it in, whereas Constructivism is the "old" term and connectivism brings in more social media use to let people be more connected. I'll have to book mark the other blog they mention so look for that to be posted soon.

Connectivism: Contemporary Learning Theory, Distance Ed Theory, or Pedagogy with Panache? - 5 views

Rolin Moe provides explanations and skepticism about connetivism, its history and role in education. I anticipate he will help define what MOOCs are, how they are used, what they provide learners, and the outcomes of connectivism as he completes his doctorate and continues in the field.
