This article has a great list of new trends in the culture of learning. The trend that I found most surprising and relevant to PLN's is the formal education is no longer the majority of our learning. As stated in the article, "learning now occurs through communities of practice, personal networks, and work-related tasks."

The value I found in this article is that the author describes the additional two benefits traditional personal development cannot. They are that a PLN allows an educator to completely personalize their training and "the "network" portion of a PLN indicates the high degree of symbiotic relationships that such personal development depends on."

Step 1: What is a PLN? - 6 views

  •
This article really helped me understand what a PLN is because it first provides a basic definition of PLN. It also links to an article on 'connectivism' which, as I learned in Module 2, is the learning theory at the root of PLN's. The other part of this article that I appreciated, is how the author breaks down the P, L, and N and describes how each aspect contributes to learning and professional growth.

This was a great article that succinctly describes what a PLN is. The page includes a brief video in which Marc-André Lalande illustrates, in a very practical manner, how educators can use PLN's to connect with other professional educators to share ideas. He also shares a few of his favorite PLN's, including Twitter.

Lessons Worth Sharing | TED-Ed - 3 views

  •
I love the Ted Ed website. It offers educators the opportunity to "flip" YouTube videos to enhance learning. You can use any video that make relate to your subject, share it, and have students watch. Then, students answer questions that you've made up specifically to go along with the video. There are also many "flipped" lessons already made up and available to use. It is a great site that helps integrate technology into curriculum.
