This article comes from the OD Practitioner journal, Fall/Winter 2000. This article focuses on the basics of Communities of Practice, defining the dimensions, purpose and changes from knowledge sharing now rather than in the past. This article focuses on the industrial and business world. It shares that knowledge in the past was knowledge was to be horded for power, while today it is to be shared to grow said power "in multiples" (Allee, 2000). The article goes on to share the benefits for everyone as far as the business, community and the individual. I appreciate the call for possible new communities of practice to meet new business community challenges.

I like how this article, even though it focuses on the industrial/business world, still has some great applications to the world of education. It's also interesting to find out more about some surrounding groups to CoPs and how they are related. A quote from the article (pay close attention to the last sentence in regards to education) says, "Communities of practice emerge in the social space between project teams and knowledge networks. When multiple project teams are engaged in similar tasks the need to share what they know often will lead to community formation. From the other direction, a loosely organized knowledge network of people who share common interests can gel into a focused community when people recognize new shared opportunities or begin to seek a significant breakthrough. Those who would support communities need to learn what conditions foster their emergence and create an environment in which they can flourish."

This site explains the five stages of adopting a personal learning network: Immersion, Evaluation, Know it all, Perspective, and Balance. It includes an image that shows the evolution of those stages.

This site has a built-in countdown, alarm clock and stopwatch. The background of the timer can be changed via any image URL, and YouTube videos can be embedded and will play once time is up.

Toondoo lets you create comic strips and cartoons easily with just a few clicks, drags and drops. It contains a number of characters, background scenes and speech bubbles to choose from. You can also import your own images.

This is a search engine for kids that makes researching much easier. In addition to finding answers for questions, the students can play games, find images, and learn facts about movies.

A great resource for students and teachers. Great tool for searching for images and other web resources that are under certain copyright laws and restrictions. Students and teachers can learn to be more aware of copyright and how to effectively use and cite their sources.

This is also a great alternative to the mundane presentation. A glog can consist of text/images/multimedia, which is included in a "virtual poster" in order to make the entire glog interactive. This can also be easily embedded into websites and blogs. Teachers have access to extra features that are enhanced for educational purposes.

I recently just started integrating Evernote with writing my lesson plans and lecture notes. In my classes I have a mixed bag of students. Some of my students have varying degrees of IEPs. For along time students who needed audiobook publisher support, to have the chapter notes read to them were bound by 1. The book we were using in class and if it had that type of support and 2. What the publisher thought was important to include in the audio, which often does not provide alternate examples for the concepts the student are trying to learn. With the record Evernote feature I have a simple and easy way to integrate audio and send my recorded lecture notes, examples and recorded exam questions to the students that need this type of alternative learning experience . I'm aware there are other resources where this was possible. Evernote just happens to be in my opinion the best one stop app to write a lecture ,integrate pictures,graphics and audio to effectively reach my entire class. Great presentation design can be difficult to master because it requires the coordination of many elements, including colors, fonts, images, icons and background. This video was really helpful. The only thing that has changed is Desmos is not available as an add-on to Google Drive. I had to go to the Desmos webpage but everything else worked well. This will come in handy as I create more project-based lessons.
