Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg highlights the ways in which we are all connected in society and the various communities we are linked with. Mark emphasizes the need to continue to network and stay connected. Our history is based on connections in society and we have continued to grow. Although only one platform to grow from, Mark's Facebook Community has offered our society and people countless opportunities to connect and grow personally and professionally.

GeoGebra has been around for many years but not they have a "Tube." This website has many sources where you can look up ideas and topics as well as assign your own for others to view!

This is another good use of a blog.  It's for second grade students and the student work has been taken down, but scope is great.  Exposing students to reflection and blogging at a young age is tremendous.  Hopefully, it starts a life-long journey of writing and reflective, critical, and creative thinking.

Even though this article was written back in 1997, it still has some really great info. Loved the line about how when the teacher did not know how to work the technology it never occurred to her to ask her students! Also another great line was Computers are not our future, they are our present!!

This is just an idea for integrating social media into the classroom but the homework has been done and there are some great details regarding the project. This project would make it possible for students, parent, educators, and such to be able to keep updated by using social media.

In order to be a good student, one has to be well fed. Boston University Dining hall tweets are informative about the practical matter of food availability. This serves as a learning instrument as students who participate in tweeting can be exploring anything from conflict resolution (a burrito being thrown) to critical inquiry (requesting details of food)

A K-12 district, the Tri-Creek School Corp., has implemented a one-to-one laptop initiative for middle and high school students, allowing them to use social media for their school work. They are using Edmodo and Google Apps to submit assignments, leave notes for teachers, ask questions, and comment on each other's work.

This presentation doesn't follow a specific project, but it has some great ideas for using Twitter in the classroom. I particularly like Twitter book club, and Twitter as a backchannel.

This is a brief summary of connectivism. It defiens the need for learners to connect and form nodes. Connections between nodes and networks of nodes can help learners grow their knowledge. Individuals have an influence on the nodes but the network has limited influence on the nodes. I like it.

This middle school showcases how to use Pinterest for learning. It has 40+ boards such as "Summer Reading Lists," Walls of Wisdom," "Eat SMART"," "Brainiacs!" and "Teaching and Learning." Students and teachers can learn something from this collection.

The National Staff Development Council is now renamed to be Learning Forward. This company is dedicated to improving professional development for educators. They believe that by making teachers learners it will enhance the students' experience in the classroom. This article details the successes it has had in school districts.

This book discusses emerging technologies in distance learning. One of the keys points covered in this book is the roll of social networking in distributing knowledge. This covers Moodle, wikis, and web 2.0 tools such as Facebook and twitter. This book is mainly theoretical in nature.

This book would be a great resource for many classrooms. I enjoyed looking at some of the parts to find out more. It is good to have many ideas to use in the classroom in case some of the ideas crash. This has so many to use which gives us many options.

Connections and communication are key with emerging technology, including social media and other teaching tools.

This site has links to historical maps of the US and all states, it's a great resource for social studies standards, especially geography, maps, and changes in communities over time. Of the states I've looked at so far, the oldest map I've found is from Virginia, dating back to 1617.
