WordPress in the Classroom: Best Practices - 0 views

  •
This last year I have incorporated Wordpress within my curriculum throughout all of the classes that I teach. I consider this a part of Communities of Practice and a form of social networking within the classroom. It has helped my students become viable producers of technology than just consumers. This site discusses the best practices of Wordpress within a classroom. A good source of information.

Diigo in the Classroom - 1 views

  •
Diigo has clear advantages to the individual that needs to store and recall important information. But how can it be used in the classroom? This blog post shares a few options for using Diigo in the classroom. One common problem of student computer use in schools is access to student work from home. Using Diigo, students can bookmark important websites and access them from school, home, the library or any internet-connected computer. Students will always have access to this data. Teachers and students can use the group and list features of Diigo to organize bookmarks on themes or topics. Classes can also collaborate and discuss information within Diigo.

This is an example of how a science department is using wikispaces to organize the curriculum for many of their classes. I was hoping to find teachers using wikispaces the way I was originally taught to use them- as a place for students to collaborate and build a wiki together. You can see what I wrote for an assignment, but I don't have any students with whom to use it: http://learningsciencealacarte.wikispaces.com/Biological_Molecules

"By setting a limited word count with a focused theme and a guaranteed audience beyond the class teacher, children have far greater motivation for writing. Those who are reluctant writers feel safe with only 100 words to write, whilst those more advanced writers can really extend themselves with the word restriction."

School-Wide Twitter Chats | Edutopia - 0 views

  • Kidsedchatnz is a weekly Twitter chat between New Zealand classes and students, every Thursday at 2:00-3:00PM. It is organised by seven New Zealand teachers via Twitter, each taking a turn to run the chats.
  • All topics and questions are posted on the Kidsedchatnz blog prior to the chat so that students can prepare beforehand.
  • This is where the questions are based on material that the students have to read or watch prior to the chat.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • After each Kidsedchatnz session, a "Tweet of the Week" is announced for the best tweet during that session. This encourages the students to produce quality tweets.
  • "Kidsedchatnz is my favourite hour of the week! I love putting my ideas out there for everyone to see."
