Scott, thanks for sharing this example of ways you use social networking with your students. Did you first have to teach your students how to use the wiki? I would love to try out this tool with my elementary students, but don't know if it would be too above their heads.
Also, what is your twitter name? I was looking to tag you in post twitter post for your wiki link.

Hi Ashley, I hadn't stumbled across any sites that gave specific examples of PLNs with thorough descriptions. That is why I like this blog! I liked the Classroom 2.0 site but sad to see that there was only one group for Physical Education that had 19 members and hadn't seen any activity since Sept. of 2012.

I liked how the article called a PLN a "digital locker" for students. Also, did not know about the iGoogle - seems like a great tool to keep all of one's resources in check!

podcast that explains the importance of PLNs for Educators. Author belives there are two main reasons for creating a PLN - accessibility and responsibility. PLNs should be used to find answers to questions, reading blogs and news, publish and share info, along with many other uses. The podcast ends with the authors PLN - all the different social media sites that he constantly has showing on his browser.

youtube video created to demonstrate how a student uses a PLN to learn in class. The teacher applies the theory of connectivism to educate her students so that they become "network learners". In this class, the students do not use a textbook, but find resources online to learn about the content and then post on diigo. Once the students create a knowledge base, they create a blog to post reflections of what they have learned.

article defines a PLN and lays out several reasons to how PLNs support learners. The author gives reason to why an educator should start a PLN sooner than later and ways they can incorporate a PLN into their classroom.

article found on Huffington Post website that is advertising an online course called 'Connectivism and Connective Knowledge'. Theory and simplistic definition of connectivism is found in the sixth paragraph of the article. In the seventh paragraph, the author talks about the science that goes on inside the brain when connections are formed.

compares and contrast connectivism with other learning theories such as behaviorism and cognitivism. The article defines connectivism as "the integration of principles explored by chaos, network, and complexity, and self-organization theories." The starting point of the cycle of connectivism starts with the individual, and then to network, and lastly to the organization before repeating the process. Implications of connectivism are listed, one being that the mainstream media organizations are being challenged by the "two-way information" flow of blogging.
