Students around the world study a local water habitat. They collect data, a suggested list is provided, and share their findings with others. The idea is to promote understanding of the various impacts on water habitats and to take action to improve and sustain quality habitats based on scientific understandings. This project includes mentoring from a university environmental scientist.

Students describe a typical day in their life and/or a special event such as a birthday. Students may also submit a captioned digital photo of themself representing an event in their life on an agreed upon subject (e.g. typical meal, transportation to school). This is a great way for students around the world to learn what it is like to be a child in different countries. Students may develop a deeper understanding and tolerance for cultures that are different from their own.

Students research and write about traditional celebrations in their country or region. Helps younger generations preserve traditions and helps students better understand various global traditions. With a better understanding of customs of other countries, our students may develop more compassion and tolerance for those who are different!

Very interesting project that well help students make personal connections to historical events. Students interview family or friends about life experiences related to world or local history. It is interesting to read what students in other parts of the world have written about events we are familiar with. I would love to see them organize the family stories by events as well as countries.

Video podcasts suggesting ways for teachers to teach Math concepts. Similar to Common Craft technique of using whiteboard. It might be interesting to have students create their own video podcasts to explain a concept for their classmates. [At times confusing as to who their audience is supposed to be.]

Students could use these fingerpuppets to create political commentary videos, political commercials, or hold their own debates. I know it is a stretch, but it looks like so much fun. Be sure to check out a few of the videos already posted on YouTube :) p

This free webtool lets you format any webpage for printing; you can also combine webpages and format them all for easier printing. This would be beneficial when you want to print information for a class but don't want the ads or other nonessential elements on the page. Provides a good way to save ink and paper when you need to print from the web. It was easy to use too.

Interesting way of summarizing user engagement with social media.

A free site where members can find and contribute lesson plans and other educational support materials. Members can also review and rate the contributions and join groups to promote collaboration locally or globally. Nonmembers can view the resources.

A blog created by a classroom teacher and her 5th and 6th grade Language Arts classes which includes student book reviews, an author study podcast, an online book club and more.

This blog is a good example of how students can write book reviews to be shared with their peers. It will also be interesting to watch how their online book club develops. I look forward to their How 2 Videos especially the video on finding a good book!

Collaborative tool that can utilize various types of media and allow commenting through voice, text, audio file, and video. The person commenting can also draw on the visual and it will by synched with their comment. Educators can purchase a one time $10 membership to put more restrictions on access.

Teachers could use this tool to post images, videos, or slideshows and have each student share their ideas about what was presented. This would give all students a chance to express their thoughts. I believe the teacher can hold the comments until she is ready to release them so students can't base their comments on the other comments they heard. I also liked the idea that it could be moderated by the creator of the Voicethread. Students could also use it as a presentation tool.

Mr. Coley's classroom website has several interesting uses of technology. I particularly enjoy The Daily Blog, ColeyCast, StudyCast, iPod Flash Cards, Classroom Taxes, and his generous "How To" explanations.
