This list is for tools that can be used in the classroom by either the students or the teacher.

This is my Tools list.

TestWiz and other programs like it, such as Elements, are essential test procesing and analysis tools for data administrators, local school technology coordinators, administrators, and teachers. These systems provide data in a hundred or more demographic fields so as to hone in on sub-groups that need the most help. Due to the results-based high-stakes testing era we are now in, tools such as TestWiz are now essential to ensure schools make AYP at the end of each academic year.

Collaborative tool that can utilize various types of media and allow commenting through voice, text, audio file, and video. The person commenting can also draw on the visual and it will by synched with their comment. Educators can purchase a one time $10 membership to put more restrictions on access.

Teachers could use this tool to post images, videos, or slideshows and have each student share their ideas about what was presented. This would give all students a chance to express their thoughts. I believe the teacher can hold the comments until she is ready to release them so students can't base their comments on the other comments they heard. I also liked the idea that it could be moderated by the creator of the Voicethread. Students could also use it as a presentation tool.

This is a very cool tool. I came across it this weekend while searching for something for my Cool Tools Demo and immediately put it down as one of the things I wanted to talk about. I just noticed you just posted this, so I hope I don't steal your thunder! It is something I would love to learn more about and actually use at some point, though. SlideShare is a similar program I came across and signed up for as well. I'll post that bookmark for the group.

This site features many interactive learning and design tools for teachers and lots of ideas and examples for integrating technology. 4Teachers features professional development, educational video games, success stories, and a videos channel. It also has links to a "Family of Tools" including QuizStar, RubiStar, Academic Skill Builders, PersuadeStar, Equity, TrackStar, Assign-A-Day, Casa Notes, PBL Checklists, Teacher Tacklebox, Web Poster Wizard, NoteStar, Think Tank, and KidsVid. There are also assessment resources available.

This article points to the importance of proper teacher training and use of technology to garner student academic achievement. Students need to have the technology tools accessible to them to be sucessful. Test data needs to be collected (from programs like TestWiz) in order to identify learning strengths and weaknesses. Finally, the author states that it takes a "community of educators and a host of technology tools" to ensure students meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards.

VoiceThread is another Web 2.0 presentation tool where users can interact with presentation slides via video, voice, and text commenting. Presenters can get real-time feedback on posted presentations, and users can interact with each other, sharing ideas related to the content covered.

Andrea Keith gives an overview of the safe email services provided by Gaggle.net. Gaggle is dedicated to providing safe email accounts for students. The tools they provide allow schools to feel secure when giving their students email access. Gaggle offers both free and paid services.

Document cameras, also known as "visual presenters," are electronic presentation tools teachers and instructional technologists use to display anything from documents and drawings to 3-D renderings and other objects that cannot be displayed on a standard overhead projector. Through the use of a megapixel sensor camera (instead of a set of mirrors and light tables), images can be displayed on an interactive whiteboard or overhead screen just by placing the item on the presenter, therefore eliminating the need for transparencies. Most models also offer the ability to interface with other electronic media in order to display digital images and video.

SlideShare provides users a way to post slide presentations through online features. This service was one of the first Web 2.0 sites to provide a way to upload presentations, tag them, create discussion groups, and invite other users to build upon them. It is a forward-thinking alternative to the usual PowerPoint presentation that allows interactivity and accessibility not seen before in typical presentation tools.

I put this under tools, but, honestly, it's a lot more. iTunes U is a repository to tons of podcasts and the like that are all state-approved and available through iTunes for free. This site also helps teachers make their content available to other teachers.

270toWin.com is an excellent tool for reinforcement instruction in government, the Electoral College, and the way our country elects its leaders. The level of interactivity is amazing, as it allows students to play out different scenarios, respond on blogs, take quizzes, etc. Regardless of the year, this site can be used for instructional purposes. Previous presidential elections are archived for reference. This year's Senate races are also highlighted.

Social networking tool for readers. It is similar to LibraryThing. Readers can use it to find new books they might like to read based on reviews or recommendations by friends or strangers with similar tastes.
