Scratch is a Web 2.0 programming environment for beginners, where kids can use a simple programming syntax to create their own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art, and share their creations on the web. Students use built-in sprites or they can draw their own. Once the student finishes the game or animation, they can publish it online.

Mobile Digital Storytelling by Wesley A. Fryer - 0 views

  •
This article, retrieved from "Tools for TEKS- Integrating Technology in the Classroom" site, goes into why teachers should harness many of the new powers available to them now that read/write web (Web 2.0) programs are so readily available. Now that students have cell phones and are constantly posting to blogs, wikis, and YouTube, the author argues that we as teachers should put these things to good use in the classroom. Cell phones, as well as other digital audio and visual recording devices, can be used to gather and later present information for class projects.

My students love using Inspiration but they cannot work on assignments at home since they do not have the software. This site does not have the robustness of Inspiration but it can be used at home and shared between a group.

The Oregon-Trail - 0 views

This web site is brought to you by teachers Mike Trinklein and Steve Boettcher, creators of The Oregon Trail, the award-winning documentary film which aired nationally on PBS. During the three years we spent researching the film, we found lots of great material we thought would be great for teachers and home schoolers--so we built this this web site to make it all available. Enjoy the adventure! (If you are a teacher, don't miss our free online teacher's guide)

SlideShare - 0 views

SlideShare provides users a way to post slide presentations through online features. This service was one of the first Web 2.0 sites to provide a way to upload presentations, tag them, create discussion groups, and invite other users to build upon them. It is a forward-thinking alternative to the usual PowerPoint presentation that allows interactivity and accessibility not seen before in typical presentation tools.

This tool was easy to use and the ability to undo makes it even easier since you are not afraid to see what something looks like. You won't lose your changes.
  • Edit any public page in your browser - no installation required!
  • Format any webpage for printing in seconds - no more pasting into Word
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • widgets and other distractions
  • removing ads
  • Bookmarklet.
  • Edit the page until it contains only what you want to print
  •
This free webtool lets you format any webpage for printing; you can also combine webpages and format them all for easier printing. This would be beneficial when you want to print information for a class but don't want the ads or other nonessential elements on the page. Provides a good way to save ink and paper when you need to print from the web. It was easy to use too.

Kidlink's "My Friends and Family": Links to 5 lesson plans. - 0 views

  •
These web-based modules would be especially helpful to a teacher teaching a life-skills unit in conjunction with instruction by a guidance counselor. All five lessons (important relationships, resolving disputes, dealing with loss, rules and roles, and celebrations and family gatherings) all center around important people in children's lives, namely friends and family. Students can interact with the website and post feelings about what they've learned. The Kidlink site is great overall.
