Spicynodes : Home - 0 views

SpicyNodes is a website that allows users to create node-maps (similar to mind maps) through an interactive, multimedia platform. Creating a node-map requires users to engage in highly complex cognitive tasks as users must create a hierarchal order for the information they want to present. As a teaching tool, each node can be designed to include both pictures or videos and text to highlight content, consistent with Mayer's (2009) dual channel processing principle. Designed effectively, a node-map can be an effective learner-centered approach for presenting information as the concise format of a node naturally aligns with the "limited capacity" of working memory (Id.). As a learning tool, learners can use node-maps to organize their thinking and developing understanding of complex subjects. Creating a node-map requires the user to carefully consider the relationship and interconnectedness of information and to organize that information in a meaningful manner. Reference: Mayer, R. (2009). Multimedia learning (2nd Ed.). New York, NY: Cambridge University Press.

Tablets and iPads - 0 views

  •
This Web site includes a collection of resources (articles, blogs, podcasts, and presentations) related to the significance of tablets and iPads in K-12 and higher education institutions. One article in particular discusses seven things that users need to know in using iPad apps in education (http://net.educause.edu/ir/library/pdf/ELI7069.pdf). The scenario provided in the article makes for a learner centered approach to learning, as the iPad is simply used to enhance student's natural learning in identifying stars and constellations. Additionally, the active engagement required focuses on cognitive activity.

Website 1 - Prezi Presentations: - 0 views

Website 1 - Prezi Presentations: http://www.bbcactive.com/BBCActiveIdeasandResources/UsingPreziInEducation.aspx Prezi is a cloud-based presentation program which was created during 2009 by Peter Arvai (prezi, 2014). Due to its intuitive nature, educators and learners can use prezi to organize information to promote knowledge construction for finding meaning to complex problems. Knowing that prezi presentations promote active learning, I will use this program as one of the three artifacts for my multimedia workshop on flipped classroom instruction.

Math Text Book: Houghton Mifflin Math Tennessee - Multimedia Artifacts - 0 views

  •
The Math textbooks are available online with content identical to the student books. Education Place includes a Math Glossary, Games, Brain Teasers, Extra Practice, Homework Help, and More. Both of these websites are used with each unit or lesson in Reading or Math. It can also be accessed at home by parents and students. Some games included in the sites might provide some behavioral activity, however, it is general more cognitive in nature. The learning is presented through a website used via iPads, computer, or interactive white board, however it is learner-centered on the standards and objectives directly correlated with the units and lessons being studied at school in Reading or Math.

Sliderocket's free version can be used to create vivid online presentations for assessments. It promotes generative learning because students can use it to present final products that reflect their understanding. I chose this site because of the flexibility avaiable for its presentations and its reputable nature.
  •
Slide Rocket allows the user to create new PowerPoint style presentation or to import presentations from PowerPoint. These presentations can be shared and the site keeps track of how many users are viewing the presentation and how it is being shared. Because it allows the user to use existing presentations, it also eliminates the need for a single computer to be able to edit the presentation.
  •
Using SlideRocket gives users the advantage of importing simple presentations and creating animated slideshows. SlideRocket offers professional level tools unavailable thorough other presentation websites. By starting with simple concepts and linking them together between slides, workshop participants get a clear pre-training introduction to difficult production content.

My topic is Community Service and Work Place Learning. The first website including multimedia artifacts is http://hcscareers.vic.edu.au/index.php?page=Occupations-A-Z. This site includes opportunities for behavioral and physical activity. By using the career quiz as a hook or a preassessment, students are able to reflect on their career of choice. The cognitive artifacts include videos related to each occupation. As stated by Mayer (2009), learning comes from cognitive activity, and the videos describing each job in its natural state allows for active processing. The site encompasses cognitive and physical activity that supports active learning from the hook presented on the home page to the opportunity to develop personal profiles and resumes.
