The purpose of this post is to describe some multimedia artifacts that would be beneficial to collaboration in education.
https://www.edmodo.com Edmodo is a great collaborative technology tool for both professional collaboration and class collaboration. This multimedia artifact for active learning contains a plethora of options for collaboration. Some of the options such as taking a poll are behavioral in nature, because the participant was expected to participate. While others such as the conversations through postings is cognitive in nature, because students are engaging in active learning by putting together ideas and attaching it to other knowledge (Mayer, 2009, p. 67). This tool would be learner-centered because it is focused on how humans learn and giving them a technology space to learn in these ways.
http://www.epals.com ePals would be a fantastic collaboration tool for Foreign Language classes and any class that wants to teach students about the global community. This collaboration tool is focused on student to student collaboration. Teachers can team up their classes with other classes around the world. Then students are able to engage with one another to learn from one another. Mayer (2009, p. 17) stated that knowledge is personally constructed. The students who participate in this active learning will be able to gain knowledge. In addition, this tool is learning-centered because those involved with the technology used technology to advance learning not the other way around.
https://www.gaggle.net/overview/ Gaggle is an extraordinary technology tool for educators. This company started out as a place teachers could set up school emails for students and the emails be constantly monitored for inappropriate content. The company has added many other options that are also constantly monitored, such as instant messaging and discussion boards. These collaboration tools can be used to create learner-centered learning environments that allow students to share their knowledge with the teacher and other students in a safe learning environment. Mayer (2009, p. 17) revealed that transforming information into knowledge requires that the student actively take the information and process it to make sense of it and the teacher provide the student with guidance on how this is done. This collaboration multimedia tool allows for teachers to guide their students to knowledge in a safe learning environment.
