The problem with the iPad and Facebook « Esko Kilpi on Interactive Value Creation - 3 views

  • Reach together with symmetry and equality were the things that made the Internet such a radical social innovation.
  • The real genius of Napster was the way it made collaboration automatic. By default, a consumer of files was also a producer of files for the network.
  • The big challenge for many organizations is to do things in a much, much simpler and more responsive way. The sad truth is that it is easier for managers to grasp the threat of competition than the risk of simply becoming obsolete.
  •
I believe that Napster gave us a glimpse of the future. The architecture it pioneered is going to be a viable model for the agile value constellations of the very near future. Client-server is not the only truth and Facebook is (just) a modern version of a Telco. Facebook is not the same as the Internet.

Create Videos in Minutes with Mysimpleshow - 0 views

  •
This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own. Videos are becoming such important tools for teachers, but one thing that stops many of us from using videos is making them: With all the other things we have to do, there's very little time to find the right video creation tool, learn how to use it, then actually create the videos.

Code Club opens up its coding-for-kids projects for UK parents and teachers | Technology | theguardian.com - 5 views

  •
Thanks for sharing this Tony. Looks very interesting - Python reminds me of Microworlds. Might look into running a lunchtime programming club for grades 5-6. Although still trying to get a Minecraft Club started! - unfortunately my school techs don't know Minecraft and although it has been on their 'to do' list from last year limited time makes it really hard for them to get it up. :-( Cheers - Chris Trimnell

Interesting to consider how this student reacted when he found the exploit and what he then did (and didnt do). Great discussion for the IT classroom.

Student Alamo project made with Minecraft - The Minecraft Teacher - 6 views

  •
The video is a great example of what kids are able to do with Minecraft and what educational value can be derived.  And kudos to Ethan's teacher for being open-minded enough to accept a Minecraft creation in lieu of a traditional history project.

  • “The Death of Twitter” is Not About Twitter
  • Twitter is, as my research continues to show, a path to voice. At the same time, Twitter is also a free soapbox for all kinds of shitty and hateful statements that minimize or reinforce marginalization, as any woman or person of colour who’s dared to speak openly about the raw deal of power relations in society will likely attest
  • The rot we’re seeing in Twitter is the rot of participatory media devolved into competitive spheres where the collective “we” treats conversational contributions as fixed print-like identity claims
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • This doesn’t mean I’m leaving Twitter. I’m not leaving Twitter. If this post is a fruit fly signalling rot, it is likewise the testament of a life dependent on the decaying platform for its sustenance. The fruit is still sweet, around the rotten bits. And there is no other fruit in the basket that will do so well.

Trello - 12 views

  •
"Trello is a collaboration tool that organizes your projects into boards. In one glance, Trello tells you what's being worked on, who's working on what, and where something is in a process."
  •
"More than just a to-do list or a task manager, Trello is anything you want it to be-a lesson planner, a community bulletin, a repository for inspiration. We support the way you think, not the other way around."

  • controlling audience is almost impossible when content is posted publicly
  •  I'm also wondering what we're doing to help students understand that they don't control audiences when they are posting content to the web, so misunderstandings are inevitable
