Welcome to the NSW Draft Syllabuses Version 2 presented in interactive online format. Consultation on the content of English K-10, Mathematics K-10, History K-10 and Science K-10 (incorporating Science and Technology K-6) Draft Syllabuses Version 2 is to be conducted from 13 February to 31 March 2012. Consultation includes meetings and online surveys. The online presentation of the syllabuses is new and additional features and functionality will be made available throughout 2012. "Found this fantastic infographic touting the success of infographics. Reading it ( or more correctly, viewing it) immediately focused my thoughts on the use of visual texts in classrooms today. Click on the screenshot above to view the animated, interactive info graphic that presents  13 reasons why we should use infographics ( or visual texts in general). Unlike other infographics I link to on Mr G Online, I'm not going to discuss the specific points presented - that would be contradictory to the message of the infographic. Oomfo is a new (beta) add-on site for PowerPoint. Once Oomfo is downloaded users can then create excellent looking, interactive, animated graphs.

3DTOAD.com is 3D/360 website that allows parents, students and teachers free access to 3D images of a variety of educational subjects. Items that once could be viewed only in the classroom are now available 24 hours a day via any internet connection. Images presented for viewing are selected jointly by Techtol Imaging LLC as well as Ohio Universities and Colleges.

What is remarkable in listening to Dr. Skinner is how familiar these promises seem. Here we have the promise that students can work at their own pace, through curriculum presented in a coherent order. The student interacts constantly with the author of the program, and the result is that learning proceeds twice as fast. The word "personalized" is the only thing missing - but the idea is there for sure.

I was preparing a presentation for differentiating mathematics using technology recently, and ended up editing a TED talk by Salman Khan. What struck me was Khan's idea that technology can humanise the classroom - which, as Khan acknowledges, is in some ways counterintuitive. Indeed, when I talk to teachers about technology in the classroom, they have visions of a very inhuman scenario, where students have their eyes glued to the screens, interacting with noone. I'd argue that many things that currently happen in traditional classrooms are dehumanizing; however, we don't see them this way because that's how classrooms have always been. I'd also argue that technology can humanize these experiences. Here are four things I've invested time and effort into that have humanized the classroom.

DeweyDigger.com is a visual search portal where you can "Explore knowledge via the Dewey Decimal Classification; just clickety-click."  On the splash page you are presented with the main Dewey Numbers and an ever-changing interactive panorama showing images from these listings.  Next you need to click on an image to access a cloud tag of terms in that call number.  From there you can select a tag and then select a search or research tool to locate information.

EducationEye allows the user to discover, explore and share new ideas. It maps hundreds of top educational websites, blogs, forums and case studies to provide up to date information about innovative ideas being explored in the education community. The information is then present in a visual format that is itself interactive. Type in your search term and let it find the relevant articles, websites or links. This is a innovative tool from Futurelab and well worth a visit

Free tool for creating branching storyboards in HTML. Also suggested for planning lessons or slide presentations with feedback for scenarios. Really simple to use.
