The intended audience for this site are students in Pre-K through 8. This site would be a good site if its' games were made using standards from different school districts. Also, some of the games are difficult to understand and poses as a threat to young learners. This site functions as an advertisement site, which can grab learners attention while playing the games.

SparkNotes Least Fav Edu Website - 1 views

I assume everyone's seen this site. If you haven't it summarizes texts and information. But it's one of my least favorite sites, as an English guy. It just cheats kids out of thinking for themselves. It's not 21st century learning-students don't learn to think or read critically, they just regurgitate the information they read here, which does more harm than good.

This site is a favorite of my students, but not one of mine. I have reservations about this site because it teaches our kids that they do not have to pick up a book and read it. It encourages them in a sense to be lazy.
  •
This was becoming popular when I was in high school. Instead of reading a book - just learn about it online. Just another website that makes it easier for students not to learn. (4 of 5 least favorite websites).
  •
I dislike this website because students feel as though they can use this instead of reading the book that is required of them.  A lot of times, it even gives false or inaccurate information about the book being searched or read.  It only provides students with overviews and chapter summaries and takes away from the details that they could be reading in the actual book.

This goes on my least favorite sites because of it's lack of credible information. I just feel that it can dramatically mislead a student.

I agree. This site almost always comes up #1 in the search results. It is not allowed in my classroom for any type of research purposes.

You just never know what you are going to get from this site. Could be great....could be not so great. Not my top pick for students.

I use Wikipedia for personal use only. You never know if the information is accurate. Students love Wikipedia for some reason. (It is always the first website to come up for websites).
  •
Wikipedia is a controversial source. I like the source for quick information for personal use, but I do not like it as an educational website. The main complaint for the site is that anyone can change it. That is not why I do not like it. I do not like it because I think it leaves out critical information on many topics. It is a good tool for getting quick easy questions answered but not for in depth answers to tough questions.

You can't be sure this information is accurate. (1 of 5 of least favorite websites)
  •
Although this website has a lot of good information on it at times, it can not be depended on to provide accurate information to teachers or students.  Since anyone can post information on this website, it is not reliable for students or teachers to use in the classroom for important projects or lessons.
  •
I do not let my students use wikipedia, for the main reason that anyone can edit the information. Not all of the information is correct.

The Science Spot seems like a great resource, but things are very hard to find here. The home page is cluttered and students would be hard pressed to effectively utilize this resource.

ABC's great for kindergarten independent reading skills
  •
This site has great interactivity and good response mechanisms. I could see kids using this to practice their pronunciation and reading skills. The language allows clicking on individual words, where they then sound out loud. Check out the Earth Day section - you can drag recyclables to the bins and hear the words. Great! Lots of color, sound, kids voices, and animation make this site fun

agree! I use this frequently w/ K & 1, and especially my ESL students because of the amount of vocabulary it includes!
  •
This website is a great internet tool for emerging readers and struggling readers. Students are able to listen and view tutorials to learn letter sounds, how to use letters in words and how to build sentences. This phonics tool is helpful to students that struggle with traditional instruction but are able to engage with web 2.0 tools to help further their understanding. This website also has additional tutorials and interactive games for holidays, seasons, and more advanced readers.
  •
Starfall is designed for Pre-K-2nd grade students. The goal of this site is to help kids read better by using phonics. This site is on my least favorite list because this site needs to add more interactive elements to it. Students are given the option to click on the words but I feel that having interactive games keeps the child interested

The CDC website is a great resource for both students and adults. While the homepage is a little busy, the site is easy to navigate and very informative. It is even utilizing social applications to spread information even more efficiently! I have used this site as a resource for some of my middle school classes.

Wolframalpha.com is an amazing resource for learners of all ages! Students can use it to learn about most any topic. More than a search engine, this is a knowledge engine that performs calculations much better than google!

PE Central.org is one of my favorite websites and one of my least favorite websites at the same time. It is one of my favorites because it has great resources that are in one central location. It is a great place to find ideas for new lessons or find easy to follow lessons that you are already teaching to print for your substitute.

This is also one of my least favorite websites because of how jumbled, busy, and difficult to navigate it is. I use it because it is a great resource and do not have a better option. But the design of this website is terrible and it could be organized a lot better.

This is a great website that effectively targets school age students (kids and teens) as well as parents. This website is easy to navigate, even for students in 3rd grade. It also contains relevant information for each of its targeted audiences. I have used this site as an additional resource for both elementary and middle school students. This website is a hit with students partly because it has a great color scheme and is easy to look at, but also because it teachs students important topics using videos and games!

Quiz Hub - 0 views

Quiz Hub is at the bottom of my list because it doesn't help the teacher assess the scores. Their intended audience is K-12Their philosophy is to "generate" and "strengthen" students core knowledge. With no way of assessing students, it's hard to tell if progress is being made.

Skate Kids - 0 views

This site was designed for children ages 7-12. There aren't many games on the site and when children are playing games, they lose focus on the task at hand; learning! Skate Kids functions as a site that teaches learners how to memorize and recognize. I think that this site has potential but I would have to put it in my least favorite five.

Study Island - 0 views

I have students that are really not in my class, but they are on my role. These students work with Study Island to help them pass their EOG's. These students are below their grade level potential, so they come to me during my class for extra help The Study Island user-friendly interface allows students to move through the program step-by-step. Each section has a pre-test and a post-test, as well as topics that cover each of the objectives within the Standard Course of Study. Topics consist of questions, answers, explanations, and lessons that address the specific skills required in order to master the Standard Course of Study.
  •
This is one of my favorite sites to use. Study Island is built from state standards and features many options for its' users. The intended audience for this site are K-8. It functions as a testing platform for students and an assessment tool for educators. I enjoy that the activities are designed based on state standards and that educators have the option to choose what questions and/or games will be included in the students activity.

This site is very well organized, and has lots of examples in many subjects. Uh-ho - you gotta sign up. It's worth it though. The lessons are obviously done by experts.
  •
This site helps enhance and develop learning skills in many content areas. BrainpopJr is for K-8 and the regular site (www.brainpop.com) is for students in grades 4-8. I enjoy this site because it allows students to go to specific subjects and learn about them in a fun and interactive way.

I use this site for my 8th grade Careers classes. This site lets students learn about different careers that they will be exploring in class. They can take a walk in their shoes to see if they want to pursue the career. It will tell the students how much education they will need, what the income is, and much more.

ClassScape assists teachers in self-assessment of instructional strategies and monitoring student progress on an ongoing basis. ClassScape is an online classroom assessment system that facilitates learning by focusing on curricular objectives. The K-8 school that I teach at in the afternoons have just purchased this software for the school. The teachers seem to like it, we also have Study Island, but classscape seems to line up with NC EOG's better than Sudy Island.

I create my own games, quizzes, and surveys for my students with this site. My school discrict also pays for quia for the CTE teachers to use. The only thing that I really do not like with this site is I can not see their scores when they take a quiz at home. So, I use this site for review during class time.
