#6. Glogster EDU- This is a great way to incorporate the school into the home. This program allows teacher to show caregivers what is being done in the classroom (i.e. uploading class calendars, posting students' projects, etc.). If teachers post educational practice links, students are able to practice certain skills learned in the classroom at home. This program also allows parents to connect with the teacher, it will allow parents and teachers to communicate via blogs.

Wonderful that someone put together a list of the top ten tools for young children,their parents and teachers. Several sites would be helpful in working with young children or counseling are: 1. Wordle - students could create a poster of words they know and continue adding new words. 2. Yola - a user friendly software that allows teacher, parents, student to create a web site.to share information with others. 3. Blogs - the KinderKids Blog published class projects that could be view by parents or serve as means of communicating with classrooms around the world.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children Technology & Young Children Interest Forum has a website with information about their projects, and a link collection with information on "Tech with Children", "Tech Tools for Educators", "Tech at Home" and Research.

A joint position statement issued by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media at Saint Vincent College. Tech on Deck - Volunteers Needed The Technology and Young Children Interest Forum is doing it again and we need your help! We are looking for TYC Interest Forum members to volunteer a little bit of their time during Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20 during the NAEYC Annual Conference to make Tech on Deck the most successful technology in early childhood event. About Tech on Deck Tech on Deck is a professional learning experience designed to help early care and education professionals learn about innovative technologies through hands-on experience and demonstrations at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Annual Conference. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in conversations on how technology and digital media tools can be integrated into their unique setting. Participants will also have the opportunity to share resources and join the Technology and Young Children Interest Forum (TYCIF).

What happens when a preschooler goes online? This report attempts to document how young children use the web. It is illustrated by YouTube clips.

Babies and young children can learn about the world around them through all sorts of real-world objects and safe replicas, from dolls to cardboard boxes to mixing bowls, and even toy cellphones and computers. Babies can learn a great deal just by exploring the ways bowls fit together or by imitating a parent talking on the phone.

I found this website to be very confusing to use. It doesn't seem like it would be very appropriate for young children. There is a chance that a teacher could use it in a early childhood classroom, but overall, most children that young would have a hard time listening to a presentation, even if it was a cool one. Also, Prezi costs money to use so that is definitely a draw back. However, if you were a college professor or even high school teacher, Prezi may be worth the money.

Madelyn, you are right- this is not for use by young children. It is a new type of presentation tool which shifts from the typical slideshow type presentation to one that organizes all of the information components on a single document, and allows the presenter to zoom in on sections of the content, and particulars, to help share ideas. There is a free download version available, which is the one I have started to explore. For example, I have documented the development of our use of Diigo in early childhood settings, and created an image map. That is not visually interesting/accessible when shared as a whole, but might be transferable into a Prezi document which would be. We will see...

Panel discussion- many questions and concerns often raised by parents of young children and early educators about using tech with young children were discussed, as well as what the research shows, policy connections and resource recommendations.

Great new app that was recommended to me. Great potential for young students and possible applications for French Immersion or other second language students. Key premise is that students are shown an image and then have 30 seconds to record their voice as they add to the story. Finished product becomes an iBook that others can listen to.
