To close "opportunity gaps" what are the various ways to provide access and opportunity to learn about tech-consider some of the suggestions in the report, "Growing Young Minds"found as a link off of this page http://www.imls.gov/assets/1/AssetManager/GrowingYoungMinds.pdf

Until now, there have only been a few broad-brush reports that lump 'technology' into single or narrow categories that don't provide the specifics needed to inform early education directors' decision-making. Some existing studies about young children and technology are focused on technology or television use at home. Other surveys focused on educational technology in K-12 classrooms. This study isolates classroom use of interactive technology tools.

Blog on early education policy by the New America Foundation. According to their website, Early Education Watch "provides analysis, reporting, and commentary on early education, with a focus on policies that affect children's access to high-quality, aligned educational programs from ages 3 through 8. I haven't explored the blog well enough yet to see whether it contains information about technology and young children, but it's a good example of using technology to connect early childhood educators with public policy.

Report from Sesame Workshop on digital media habits of young children

This is a piece I wrote for my (shamefully neglected) Huffington Post blog after the Digital Age Teacher Preparation Council released its 2011 report on preparing PreK-3rd teachers.

Includes "Pre-K" teachers for 2nd year. Interesting stats on K-12 vs. Pre-K access to technology and usage of digital media.

This is better than totlol because it's free :) Part of KidZui, I like the searching, browsing, and channel options. I'm not entirely sure how videos get in because you can 'report' videos, and they've definitely removed some videos because if you search for "sex" you'll find a bunch, and several have been removed. But, it's better than just letting a kid loose on youtube :)

I really loved this website! It would be great in a classroom because a teacher can easily find videos that are appropriate for his/her classroom. My favorite aspect would probably be how they set aside a videos specifically for Halloween! This would be really fun in a classroom around Halloween, and I bet they do it for more than just Halloween.
