Free patient websites, blogs, support and community - CarePages.com - 0 views

  •
Carepages is a site that allows individuals undergoing a health care challenge to connect with others going through the same experience. Families are also able to create their own blogs and websites where they can share updates with family and friends. Carepages provides support, community, and resources for anyone needing information and help during these trying times.Teachers can use this site to gain knowledge of conditions that might be affecting their students as well as by providing them with a way to check in on a student who might be in the hospital.
  •
Carepages are a great way for families and patients to keep family and friends updated both in and out of the hospital. They would also be a great way for teachers and students to stay in touch with a friend who is in the hospital and missing school.
  •
A website that connects patients during a "health challenge." This site, like CaringBridge, is for ill children and families and has information, discussion boards, and blogging. Although useful for a certain segment of the population, does it belong on techhome?

Family Fun, Blogs, Homes, Health, Travel, Parenting, Marriage - Families.com - 1 views

Families.com is a great website for parents and families. There is a lot of information on a variety of different topics. This site provides a discussion forum where members can post topics to gain advice or knowledge from other members. I recommend it as an easy way for parents to stay informed and connected with other parents.

Advice blogs and discussions on a variety of topics but not about technology.

This website would be useful for parents and families. Not only do they offer a plethora of blogs, there are message boards, as well as money saving ideas and coupons. This website offers a lot of support to parents or all different types of families. For example, you can sort the blogs you are reading, by selecting "Jewish Family", "Single Parent" or "Fatherhood" just to name a few. Members can comment on blogs and offer their opinions and support. The only thing I did not love about this site is that there are lots of advertisements.

An attempt to shed light on the recurring worry about a topic that keeps coming up, but few people seem to want to systematically -- young children and RF (Radio Frequency) radiation that comes with devices like iPhones, and connected gaming systems like the PSP and DS.

Facebook - 0 views

  •
An online directory that connects people through social networks.
  •
This was one of my tools that I used for the tech project. As a teaching tool in an increasingly computerized world, I think it is important to use what people know and are comfortable. As one of the most used social networking sites worldwide, facebook is a great tool for this use. I know I've used it in education settings (setting up meetings, chatting with classmates, making a schedule and sending messages, and having a group dedicated to a class or group project). In using facebook in the classroom, you use a powerful tool that students will use whether it has educational content or not. The educational information might as well be embedded in this site that would be more commonly checked and utilized than just about any other technology tool (with the exception of email).

Early Education Watch Blog - 1 views

  •
Blog on early education policy by the New America Foundation. According to their website, Early Education Watch "provides analysis, reporting, and commentary on early education, with a focus on policies that affect children's access to high-quality, aligned educational programs from ages 3 through 8. I haven't explored the blog well enough yet to see whether it contains information about technology and young children, but it's a good example of using technology to connect early childhood educators with public policy.

Apps for people with special needs | ConnectABILITY - 2 views

  •
This page offers two lists of apps, "Apps for ASD ipod Touch Project" and "Special Needs Apps" - the first list is broken down into categories like communication, sensory, social skills - lists the apps, a brief description, & the price. It's focused on individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, but of course could be useful to many. The second lists the apps & descriptions, but not the cost.

TopTen for Young Learners - All the Best! - 18 views

  •
Gail Lovely's list of Top Ten Web 2.0 tools for young learners. Should be interesting to check this out.

#6. Glogster EDU- This is a great way to incorporate the school into the home. This program allows teacher to show caregivers what is being done in the classroom (i.e. uploading class calendars, posting students' projects, etc.). If teachers post educational practice links, students are able to practice certain skills learned in the classroom at home. This program also allows parents to connect with the teacher, it will allow parents and teachers to communicate via blogs.

Wonderful that someone put together a list of the top ten tools for young children, their parents and teachers. Several sites would be helpful in working with young children or counseling are: 1. Wordle - students could create a poster of words they know and continue adding new words. 2. Yola - a user friendly software that allows teacher, parents, student to create a web site.to share information with others. 3. Blogs - the KinderKids Blog published class projects that could be view by parents or serve as means of communicating with classrooms around the world.

Twitter - 0 views

Twitter is an easy way to communicate with friends, co-workers, and other people. For us, as teachers, it is a great way to communicate with parents what is happening in the classroom!
  •
Twitter has become a very popular site over the last 2 years. This site would be more appropriate for teachers and parents. Teachers could follow someone in the public eye that has importance to education, and parents can follow teachers. By "follow", I mean that if you "follow" someone, you receive updates from them to your phone and/or web. It is a great way to stay connected! Many times parents are curious as to what their children are doing/learning that moment, and teachers can express this through using Twitter.
  •
After evaluating this site even more, there is not always a guarantee that a website that is posted to someone's update would work or be available. This could cause concern and frustration for a parent or student trying to stay in communication with a teacher through Twitter.

Photo Story 3 - 11 views

  •
Photos Story 3 is a way to combine photos, voice recordings, music, and writing . Children can bring their favorite stories to life or create their own. By creating photo stories in the class or at home, these stories can be shared to many.

With Photo Story 3, students, parents, and teachers can create, share, and connect! Simply start by uploading your digital photos and editing them the way you like. Then add your own personal touches such as special effects, transitions, music, and even your own voice narration! Children will love being able to hear their own voices narrate their stories. After you have created your stories, share them with anyone online, by burning a DVD/CD, or watching them on your TV. This is a great way for students to show their creativity! Just download the program onto your computer.
  •
Free, easy, creative tool for the user. Upload photos, add captions, your own voice as narrator, transitions. and music. Clear instructions too. What's not to like?
  •
Photostory is unbelievably user friendly and could be used in any classroom to help a child integrate their outside of school experience inside the classroom. It's a good way to get children to learn about the way that other families live and it brings a sense of community to the classroom when a photostory is shared and everyone knows a little bit more about that individual.
  •
that is a really great idea. That is amazing. Thanks for sharing
  •
I actually downloaded this software recently. It was extremely easy to use and fun to play with. I created a couple of slideshows involving my siblings, and shared with my family via the email and they enjoyed it. I like how easy it is to share and how creative you can get with it. I feel that children could use this with some assistance, but they will be thrilled with the end result. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
