Facilities' total releases of toxic chemicals decreased 12 percent from 2011 to 2012, according to the EPA's annual Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) report. The decrease includes an 8 percent decline in total toxic air releases, primarily due to reductions in hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions.

America's cities are succeeding in curbing air pollution, according to data from NASA's Aura satellite. New York City has seen a 32% decrease in nitrogen dioxide since 2005, Atlanta's levels fell by 42%, and Denver scored a 22% decrease.

US energy-related carbon emissions dropped 12 percent last year, compared with 2005 levels, after increasing in 2013 and 2014, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). Reduced energy-sector C02 emissions in 2015 are largely due to a decreased use of coal and increased use of natural gas in the electricity mix, the EIA says. Such fuel-use changes have accounted for 68 percent of total energy-related CO2 reductions from 2005 to 2015.

Air Products has signed contracts with more than 20 recycled copper manufacturers in China to provide its oxy-fuel product that it says improves productivity and material qualities compared to conventional air-fuel technologies. The report, Power Forward 2.0: How American Companies are Setting Clean Energy Targets and Capturing Greater Business Value, shows that clean energy is becoming mainstream for U.S. corporations - with 60 percent of the Fortune 100 having goals for renewable energy or greenhouse gas reductions. The Walt Disney Company in 2014 decreased its net emissions 31 percent from its 2012 levels, putting Disney on track to reduce net emissions 50 percent by 2020, according to the company's most recent corporate sustainability report.

Beer maker Carlsberg Group introduced its Together Towards ZERO campaign Tuesday, which aims to eliminate carbon emissions by 2030 and increase its focus on renewable electricity at its breweries. The company will also work to decrease brewery water usage and improve water management in high-risk areas.

The District of Columbia now sources a third of its electricity from a Pennsylvania wind farm, which is expected to save the city up to $45 million in electricity bills over the next two decades.
