ainforest Action Network (RAN) claims it has found many Japanese companies are either 'systematically misreporting compliance' under Japan's Corporate Governance Code, or have a 'fundamental lack of understanding as to what constitutes meaningful sustainability reporting.' RAN evaluated ten major Japanese companies' Code reports and asserts that none of the companies are sufficiently disclosing their risks. The NGO advises shareholders take heed.

The El Paso Zoo launched a free national smartphone application Thursday that scans the product's bar code on the back of the item to help consumers identify which ones use palm oil. The El Paso Zoo Palm Oil Guide and Scanner app is currently available in the iTunes App Store for iPhones. An Android version will be available next month.

New York City's sustainable programs have helped it become one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the U.S., writes Jonathan Pappas. Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport has been recertified by Green Globe. The hotel is placing low-flow faucets in guest rooms this year and will eventually use energy-efficient LEDs in all public areas.
