Important to remember - 1 views

  •
The codex, and large parts of The World of Thedas books, about Dragon Age are written in the style of historical documents. Therefore, as with all historical documents, they show the bias of the author. It's a really nice touch by the writers, but it means they shouldn't be taken at face value.

Why "mages are dangerous" is a bad argument. - 0 views

  •
Ok, first of all: you cannot justify oppression. you cannot do it. One more time: you. cannot. justify. oppression. or. rape. or. abuse. or dehumanization. or. murder. or. tranquility. Now, moving on.

Avernus's Experimental Draught - 0 views

  •
yarking: mehofkirkwall: SO YOU KNOW ANOTHER GAPING PLOT HOLE I NOTICEDYou know how, in Act 1, you can find Avernus's Experimental Drought on a dead body and drink it for 2 free attribute points. Cool right?Except for the fact Avernus's research was entirely into how to refine the Joining Ritual.

Converting Thedosian Dates - 0 views

I'm going to be looking for this later... Chantry ages to Tevinter: Drop the colon. Add 1094. Tevinter to Chantry: Subtract 1094.If it's more than 100, count two numbers in from the right and stick a colon, because you're in the Divine Age or better. If it's less than 100, subtract 100, because the Divine Age is 1, not 0, and you're in the Ancient Age.Chantry to Elvish: Drop the colon.

On the nature of the Black City - 0 views

This is me thinking out loud, before I forget this, again... Spirits are sentient pieces of the Fade. The Fade is, to some extent, controlled by the desires of those within it. If one expects to see a demon, even if one sees a spirit, one will believe it is a demon.

Solas's motivations - 1 views

  •
I read a really great piece of meta a while back that pointed out that to Corypheus, the entire current age of Thedas is what Future-Redcliffe is to Dorian and the Herald-terrible, unbearable, a thing unquestionably to be repudiated and undone.

Gateway Amulet (DA:O) - 2 views

  •
So, I'm flipping through unobtainable content for DA:O, and I stumble on this glorious thing: Gateway Amulet.A mirror on a silver chain, etched with glyphs. The mirror reflects nothing, only swirling mist.OKAY, IS IT JUST ME, OR IS THAT A VERY SMALL ELUVIAN ON A CHAIN?

On the Crows and Treviso - 0 views

  •
rederiswrites: "The Crows started as an arm of the Chantry. In the hills north of Treviso, an order of monks used the herbs grown in the gardens of their abbey to oppose the rule of a despotic duke in the only manner they could."

Hey Jane! I have a real problem with the location of Skyhold - 1 views

  •
Hey Jane! I have a real problem with the location of Skyhold and would be interested in hearing your thoughts about it: Shouldn't it be impossible to feed all these people (and horses too) in the middle of some freezing mountains? Do you have your own headcanons regarding this logistical nightmare?

Andrastian monastic orders and factions - 0 views

  •
Important topic for ur consideration: the establishment and growth of Andrastian monastic orders in the Anderfels or western Orlais (like, in/near the Western Approach/Hissing Wastes). And/or Andrastianism in the Anderfels turning towards something very like Catharism. (Feel free to publish this if you wish.) - Excellent.

Will only elves survive the fall of the veil? - 0 views

  •
rederiswrites: Okay I keep seeing posts that assume that only elves will survive the destruction of the Veil and I...don't see any support for that assumption? Timeline-wise (I checked with my timeline expert penbrydd ), dwarves existed for a long time before the Veil, and humans almost certainly were around in Thedas also.

On Tranquility - 0 views

  •
Solas: You must understand. I awoke in a world in which the Veil had blocked most people's conscious connection to the Fade. It was like walking through a world of Tranquil.Lavellan: We aren't even people to you?I'm just going to quote Owain from DA:O, the Tranquil who manages the stockroom at Kinloch Hold:"My capacity to feel differs from yours, but you also differ from all other beings.

Dragon Age: Titans, Evanuris, and Creepy Plants - 2 views

  •
This is not a complete theory of stuff, but rather a collection of linked concepts and ideas from across Descent and Trespasser. For that reason, spoilers for the Descent and Trespasser below the cut. Before I get into this, a quick shout out to rederiswrites for granting me permission to use her beautiful images from the Descent (my own Quizzies were nowhere near close enough to get images and she generously has allowed me to use some here).

Humans predate the veil, but where did they come from? - 0 views

  •
    > Important question, though: were there dogs, cats, horses, etc. in the pre-Veil world, or did they just pop up out of nowhere afterwards like humans seem to have done (to the best of our knowledge at this juncture)? >>I dunno about dogs/cats but I don't know why people think humans don't predate the Veil.

An Illustrated Timeline of Thedosian History - 1 views

  •
The timeline goes from the founding of Arlathan to 9:42 Dragon, which is like 8500 years, and there are something like 330 events, at this time. The load time can be considerable on slower systems, and I'm going to advise against loading this thing on a mobile device.

Bear with me, because this is my answer to life, the universe, and 'fuck the Chantry'. - 0 views

  •
Okay. Okay okay okay. Bear with me, because this is my answer to life, the universe, and 'fuck the Chantry'.Given: The Chantry is a deeply corrupt, racist, bigoted institution primarily interested in its own preservation and propagation, and it cultivates and utilizes the hatred and fear of mages (not to mention their economic potential) as a tool to this end.Given: The Circles are a fundamentally terrible and unnecessary institution all but completely dedicated to the imprisonment and oppression of mages.

Yelling about Malvernis - 1 views

  •
Okay, it's been a while since I've yelled about this, so... Malvernis. First, the dwarven inscriptions speaking of Malvernis and the prison in which Malvernis was kept. There are three codex entries on the subject: Amgeforn the Foul We called it Malvernis. The Pestilent One.
