A really juicy crack theory about the Blight and red lyrium - 0 views

  •
So. Blood magic can create communicable diseases. Ancient elves did blood magic. The Blight is a communicable disease. Red lyrium (which is Blighted) grows in people, probably specifically their blood, since that seems to be the usual magical element. Technically, lyrium is 'blood' too-Titan blood-but I'm really not sure how to factor that here, since it's clearly not at all the same as regular blood (incidentally if lyrium is supposed to be liquid, which is possible, then Thedas as a continent has the most amazing case of gout).

Templars = Titan's Blood Reavers? - 1 views

  •
random thought on Templars, lyrium and reavers and i cant be the first to think this either but... The Descent revealed that lyrium is the blood of dead titans right? Wouldn't that in a way make Templars titan-blood Reavers? And following that line of logic, doesn't that mean that Templars are technically using blood magic? I mean this is not the first instance of the Chantry condoning the use of blood magic, no matter how unwitting the use of lyrium is but still...

Wondering how blood magic works? Who uses it and why? What it's good for? Defenses against it? According to canon, this is what we know. Please note: the discussion of blood magic by its very nature means that any of the videos and codex entries linked herein are likely to contain references to or onscreen depictions of self-harm, murder, abuse, manipulation, torture, and blood and gore.

Magical Healing In The World Of Thedas - 0 views

  •
So my post on non-magic medicine in Thedas has gotten popular. And I've been seeing some posts wondering about magical healing lately. So I decided to make a post about magical healing. Then decided I should make a series and later adress blood magic and necromancy because apparently I can't do anything small.

What would happen if you used blood magic while physically in the Fade? [All DA spoilers] - 1 views

  •
kiwi-xeet: We know Tevinter Magisters were able to use it to physically cross the Veil into the Fade. But what could blood magic do if you preformed it physically in the Fade?I apologize if this is common knowledge or speculation that I have missed.Tagging people that I follow who may have insight or ideas @ourinquisitorialness @geeky-jez @emmadirthera @corseque @higheverrains @feynites OKAY TRYING AGAIN, lol.

And They Called It...Tainted Lore - 1 views

  •
The ritual described thus far is probably the baseline for all Joinings, the most basic of components needed to successfully create a Grey Warden. The rest of what Isseya does, however, was a variation that employed blood magic to force the griffon she was performing the ritual on to accept the taint. So is this the same ritual that created our warden, Alistair, and the rest of the Grey Wardens? Does this prove that you only need lyrium, darkspawn blood, and a drop of archdemon essence to do the Joining? Eh, depends on who you ask. Last Flight describes the Joining ritual, but so does the RPG Core Rulebook.

Anders on blood magic - 0 views

  •
i was thinking about anders (i'm always thinking about anders) and i was curious -- do YOU have any headcanon/thoughts as to what might have caused the shift from "making jokes if you make him a blood mage" to "BLOOD MAGIC IS THE WORST FOREVER" between awakening and da2? (my thought was that it's mostly justice, his experience with the blackmarsh witch being all the reason he needs, but he doesn't have anything to say to a blood mage warden so it's hard to say for certain)

Taint Resistance in a Bottle - Random Thought Blogs: The Blighted Entries 2 - 0 views

  •
I think there is a fairly simple, albeit probably magical, answer to the question. Whatever gives the Grey Wardens their resistance to the taint makes it nigh impossible for them to pass the taint on to others. Even with prolonged exposure to a warden's body, like during a rare warden pregnancy, the warden is not contagious, including to the child. In fact, we know that Morrigan had to go to extreme, probably blood magicky, means to have a baby with the taint. Wardens just don't pass it on.

Why is there a Grey Warden outpost at Ostagar? - 0 views

  •
Things I got out of this conversation: - There was once a Grey Warden outpost south of Ostagar in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, but in a totally relevant location, because hey, there's an archdemon right around there. - The chest can only be opened by a Grey Warden. Blood magic. How the fuck else can it tell Wardens from anyone else? - Only Alistair can be trusted to carry the map. Things I didn't get out of this conversation: - When the fuck was this outpost? How long did it last?

Can Blood Magic Remove the Taint? - 0 views

  •
So, actually, re: that Merrill post, there are several instances of the Taint being either removed completely or heavily mitigated, and there's a pattern to it, to say the least. (Last Flight spoilers)

How the Evanuris shaped reality through the vallaslin. - 0 views

  •
We know that the evanuris were god-like figures. It is constantly and heavily implied that this status of 'godhood' was beyond simple reverence, it affected their nature. As Solas says 'the first among our people are not killed so easily'. In the canonical comic 'Until we sleep' we learn of a tevinter magister forming a cult of somniari, 'dreamers' with the goal of using the blood of great dragons to shape the minds of dreamers, and subsequently, reality itself.

how did the Circle system of magic get put in place and enforced in pre-unification fer... - 0 views

  •
i've got a hard time believing they even really got on board w the andrastian chantry thing for the first few hundred years at least. and we've seen how pro-mage the avvar are - and it's canon that pre-andrastian ferelden was very similar religiously to the avvar. and ferelden was never under the tevinter imperium's rule in the same way the rest of thedas was. so a) lacking infrastructure and b) lacking the cultural trauma of …. well, being ruled by tevinter blood mages.

Master Reference Post: The Forbidden Ones/The Forgotten Ones - 0 views

The accidental spawn of my MRP on Blood Magic. Canon sources and references to some of the scariest badasses of the Fade. Strictly speaking they're two separate groups, but I'm conflating them into one post because even canon sources seem to get them confused from time to time.
