This Exquisite Forest - 10 views

An online art project developed by Google, this site is a place for digital storytelling through pictures, not words. Students can work collaboratively to create a short animated story, with each animation building off the previous branches. Students can create their own seeds & invite others to grow a tree with them. Before students can create their own seeds, they do have to contribute to an already existing tree. If a student does not feel they can express their words with an animation, think about having the students pair up. Have one student become an author & write an outline of the story, while the other student draws the animation of the story.

Extraordinary People - Julia Butterfly Hill - 0 views

  •
Julia "Butterfly" Hill endured 738 days atop Luna to stop loggers from cutting the 1,500-year-old redwood tree. Maxxam Corporation, the operator of Pacific Lumber, did their best to get her off Luna to no avail. Finally, after two years and eight days of residing 800 feet above the ground, Julia "Butterfly" Hill once again set foot on earth. Luna was saved and the bestselling "The Legacy of Luna" followed suit. Now, Luna remains to be a living tree and is yet to be made timber for houses or exotic sets of furniture.

Smithsonian Wild - 17 views

Welcome to Smithsonian WILD! This site is designed to showcase some of the exciting research conducted by the Smithsonian Institution and its collaborators around the world, and to highlight the incredible diversity of wildlife that exists in a range of habitats across the globe.  The use of motion-triggered 'camera traps' has become an incredibly useful tool for scientists to answer an enormous range of conservation and ecological questions. Researchers attach these unique cameras to posts or trees, often along forest trails, and when a camera's sensor registers an animal's body heat and movement, a photograph is taken. The studies highlighted here demonstrate the range of applications of this method, and how these cameras give us a glimpse into an animal world that is rarely seen by anyone. You can search the site by following the trail of interesting animals or the lure of diverse sites around the world.

  •
Tested by Pohutukawa is really a residential holiday project created by architect Evan Mayo of Architecture Bureau. Exhibiting a modern day architecture in comparison using the old beach cottage that was previously loved through the family, the brand new holiday house was built once the proprietors made the decision they needed a far more flexible vacation home that will incorporate the requirements of a contemporary family.
