As many would know, running is one simple form of exercise to be done anywhere, anytime. Some opt for long distance running as a form of self-achievement as well as stress relief. Here are some health benefits from long distance running as well as the risk imposed by this strenuous activity.

I really like this article. Most people think exercise equals health without thinking about the other things it can do to your body. I know a marathon runner who has had to have a knee replacement as the cartridge in his knee was worn away after years and years of long distance running and to this day it is still not the same. I think running is a fantastic and inexpensive way of keeping fit but like with most things in life, it should only be in moderation.

Running provides an efficient full-body workout, burns a ton of calories, tones the body, provides a great venue for socializing, and improves emotional well-being.The human body is wonderfully intended to adjust to the physical worries of long separation running. In any case, before preparing for their first marathon, runners must comprehend the dangers and after that deliberately decide for themselves whether the advantages exceed the dangers.
"Muscle damage and inflammation are some of the consequences.A 58-year old man died of a heart attack while running the 2008 New York Marathon so running ought to just be with some restraint.

I though running is an simple exercise that all of us do easily. After reading this article i realized it is not simple as it looks. Every thing need a proper training and good consult. Writer him self said that the benefits of long distance running is outweigh it's risks. I believe most of common people did not know about this side of long distance running. I think we should be more aware of that because it just not only depend on your personal health it also about family history as the article says the risk also depend on your family medical history. This is very interesting article and I learned lot of thing i did not know before.

I love the endorphins that are released from running short distances (5k or so) and I can see how they would become addictive enough to want to run further but after reading this article, I'm not sure I will ever fulfil my ambition of running a full marathon. The reported stats on injuries for the training alone are high enough to reconsider. When I combine this with the possibility of a compromised immune system afterwards and secondary osteoarthritis from any joint injuries I might incur, I think I would rather keep running shorter distances now so I can continue to run as I age. I don't see much point in running marathons if it's going to be detrimental to my future health.

Running is healthy and benefical anyway you look at, and as it can be done almost anywhere you don't have to worry about gym costs. As for the risks I don't particular give any weight to them, Inflammation for example is mostly caused by overtrainig and lack of strethcing before and after exercise. Simply measures can be taken to prevent Inflammation such as a structured training regime that implements your body's limitations such as having days for rest and then doing the proper stretchs before and after.

Long distance running much like most sports requires preparation, training and conditioning your body is essential as well as ensuring your diet meets the required output. Although the jury is still out on whether the benefits outweigh the risks running as a form of exercise is good for the body and soul as it gives you an physical outlet for all your pent up frustrations and emotions, I personally go running when I feel I can't think straight or solve a problem in my life. It allows me to press the reset button and start a new. Running is a fantastic way to maintain a healthy lifestyle within and without.

Especially for those who are afraid of the cold winter exercise sleepy don't want to play a role.but it can cause pain, give priority to with ankle or knee joint. #5 bek101386507, yes I agree with your point of view. You yourself know best what is good and bad for you, so it is good to choose the correct exercise that would help you stay fit instead of causing injuries in the long run. I know that long distance running is not for everyone; it requires a lot of effort both physically and mentally to be diligent in training and to not give up halfway. I think you should just stick to your most convenient form of running and don't force yourself to run longer than what your body can take. Just enjoy it! No matter what the distance is, if it makes you happy, just do it.

    Cheers!

I've never really thought about long distance running as a dangerous sport until now. I like that they opened up with the old Greek story and the article presents some interesting points about the human body and its durability and adaption to stress. All up this was actually one of my favourite articles just because it talks about something I would never have even thought to look into and I finished it feeling like I'd learnt something new I maybe wouldnt have through other means.

This was an interesting read. Sports and exercise are commonly perceived as an activity that is purely beneficial for ones health, failing to realise that if it's done in excess it can prove to be quite dangerous. Of course with the proper prepation and planning this can be done in a fashion that reduces these health risks, such as; inflammation, broken bones, stress .etc., even for something like long-distance running. As usual; you gotta take everything in moderation.

From my personal experience, I believe that if you like doing any activity and you see yourself getting better at it you will continue taking part in it. It's the sense of achievement, winning and most importantly rise in confidence. I competed in men's physique competition couple of years ago. During the preparation for comp in one of the workouts 8 weeks before competition I injured my shoulder. My GP told me I need to rest for at least 4 weeks. This didn't stop me from I wanted to achieve, so within couple of days I found a physio and a personal trainer who helped me through the competition preparation and I was able to take part in competition. Similarly, marathon runners have therapists, physios, nutritionist's and trainers to get them through there vigorous training regimes and nothing can stop them from achieving their goal. Hence, when it comes to athletes nothing really stops them because they consider getting injured is a part of training. However, it is recommended to build your stamina up to long distance running, give yourself enough time to recover and this will help in avoiding lots of injuries.
