Important article about cyberbullying and some recent legislation.

Excellent article on cyberbullying and an example of a girl who was harrassed online and killed herself. This sort of thing is tragic and we should consider what we think aboutinternet harrassment penalties, particularly against children. There are mention of several websites including one I'd never heard of called CyberBully Alert.

Quick Tips for Netiquette Think before you write! Ask yourself: "Would I say that to their face?" or "Would I say that in front of my mother?" If something upsets you, wait at least 24 hours before responding. Avoid using all capital letters. Try using symbols to show emphasis instead. Use emoticons to show expression, but don't get too carried away. They will help others interpret your meaning. Take the time to proofread, spell check, and send the right impression of yourself.

Internet SafetyWhat Can You Do To Minimize The Chances Of An Exploiter Victimizing Your Child?

Keeping children safe on the Internet is everyone's job. Parents need to stay in close touch with their kids as they explore the Internet. Teachers need to help students use the Internet appropriately and safely. Community groups, including libraries, after-school programs, and others should help educate the public about safe surfing. Kids and teens need to learn to take responsibility for their own behavior -- with guidance from their families and communities. It's not at all uncommon for kids to know more about the Internet and computers than their parents or teachers. If that's the case in your home or classroom, don't despair. You can use this as an opportunity to turn the tables by having your child teach you a thing or two about the Internet. Ask her where she likes to go on the Internet and what she thinks you might enjoy on the Net. Get your child to talk with you about what's good and not so good about his Internet experience. Also, no matter how Web-literate your kid is, you should still provide guidance. You can't automate good parenting.

Technology needs to be aware and support electronic access for everyone to create a foundation for Digital Citizenship. Digital exclusion of any kind does not enhance the growth of human beings in an electronic society. One gender should not have preferential treatment over another.
-
about how steps should be taken to let the electronic society grow, because of the many benefits that come with internet such as education. Education is better/worse in separate parts of the world, but if every single person in the world was granted access to the internet, there would be a much higher level of educated people, which will lead to a better future. There are less economically developed countries who don't have access to technology like we do. We need to work towards a future where anyone and everyone has access to the internet.
