Can Immigrants Work? Great way to introduce an element of debate to 5th graders.

Project Idea: Students work collaborative (in groups of 4) to develop an interactive multimedia Escape to Freedom Game based on the exploits of one of the most famous conductors on the Underground Railroad, Harriet Ross Tubman. This PBL project reminds me of a simulation that my students love, The Underground Railroad: Journey to Freedom.

Entry Event: West Virginia governor Joe Manchin wants you to help create a series of vodcasts about West Virginia for a new website called "LearnWV."

Title Job Today - Gone Tomorrow! Project Idea: Entry Event: Students will begin a discussion with the following question: What happens if you go to the dentist to get a tooth filled one day, but find that there is no drilling involved?Now, there is a new way to take care of this procedure but what is it?This is the problem.Students will brainstorm jobs that may "change" in the future and how the jobs will change.The problem is to design this "new job" of the future.

Project Idea: Your catering company is bidding on a job to plan a birthday party for a 13-year old.Given a budget of $250, you will submit a party proposal for 30 guests that includes a budget spreadsheet, written description of party and events, menu, map of room, and an oral presentation.

One of the project ideas I came across on the BIE website. The exploration of biomes works well with our ecosystems unit.
