Trump's Executive Order on Immigration: What We Know and What We Don't - 1 views

  •
This article breaks down the executive order signed by President Trump on banning refugees from middle eastern countries. It also talks about what we haven't found out about the order itself like if airports are complying with the order.
  •
Immigration is a very sensitive topic in the current political climate. There are many benefits to this executive order, and many consequences. National Security is something that out-scopes us all in my opinion, but staying as close to the information power curve as possible with sound sources is a great place to start. I would however question the validity of the NYT (New York Times), only on the grounds of ill reporting. Following the presidential election, the NYT issued an apology for misreporting the polls during the election. I am of the opinion that when dealing with such an emotionally fueled topic, Primary Sources are the only sources that yield direct information. Perhaps you could have sited an administration member or even an analytical specialist assessing the direct executive order. In the end however, I am not the instructor. Great topic!

I think the president is a social just issue on his own. the more I read on what he is doing the more I can't believe that he was elected. All your articles that you have found provide great information that I was completely unaware of, this being one of them.

Obama Signs Executive Order Banning The Pledge Of Allegiance In Schools Nationwide - AB... - 1 views

  •
In this article it explains Obama signing the Executive Order 13738 and the reasons on why the Pledge of Allegiance is being banned. It was banned due to lack of freedom of religion.
  •
Banning the Pledge of Allegiance in America sounds very ridiculous to many citizens. After reading the article, I somewhat understand the reasoning behind Obama's decision however, in his own words, Obama stated his action stemmed from his personal belief. One man's personal belief should not supersede the personal belief's of a million others. On a side note, President Trump revoked this executive order on March 27, 2017.
  •
The reason why people have a problem with it is because of the "Under God" part. I'm not sure about that park because it doesn't say which God they are talking about. I do think it would be best to keep it out of schools until the words "Under God" is removed. I think a better way to do this would have been removing the "Under God" part. Overall I do support removing "Under God" from the pledge.

How can a child succeed in a school setting when they don't know how to ask for help when they really need it? Their trauma sets them up for failure because they have to be so self reliant at home
  • One of the challenges in giving that support is that when kids misbehave, our schools often use disciplinary systems that involve withdrawing attention and support, rather than addressing their problems

Trump Touts Executive Orders, Preparation for Health Care Repeal After First Week - 4 views

  •
This article briefly cover the changes that the new president has made in his first week in office.
  •
It does list all of the big-hitting topics in the news lately. The repeal of AHA, the TPP, the pipeline, and many other first week orders. I don't recall of any other president making so many drastic changes or attempts at drastic changes this early in their term.
  •
I worry about how fast he is doing things and that he isn't really thinking through consequences. I'm not a big fan of Obamacare, but when faced with that or nothing, I'd stick with it, at least until something better can be found to make sure everyone has access to affordable health care.

Surveillance: Are Obama's Proposed Reforms Too Vague - 0 views

  •
President Obama has recently made a statement regarding proposed reforms to the government surveillance programs U.S. citizens recently became aware of. Among the things proposed are reforms to section 215 of The Patriot Act which grants a lot of power to override the constitution to the executive branch. The author contends that these proposed reforms could go either way and that is why they are "vague".

The death penalty is a difficult one because if people can have mixed emotions about executing someone based their crime. I just try to put me self in the victims family shoes, Robert Brook and Robert McDowell. Mark Asay had not problem taking these lives and if that was my loved one, than I would want to see justice severed.
  •
When it comes to a case like this, I wholeheartedly believe that Mark Asay deserved death for his crimes. I also believe that strict punishments like the death penalty need to be kept and used in order to impact homicide rates and discourage evil.
  •
I am totally in favor of the death row. Kills off horrible people we dont need them in our society. Who pays for them to live in prison?
