I think this is a great topic. Since, we are all in college and know first hand the expenses of college. This article argues to push for free college. He talks about a college in Georgia where they have scholarships for free college. I think this is rather interesting!

This is an interesting thought however, I feel that too easily the system would get bogged down. Also, the money to pay for this free college would have to come from tax-payers. In reality I don't see how it would work. I know in Germany college is free IF a student has a certain score on a standardized test, so that the government sees the student as a worthwhile investment. It sounds harsh, but it works. I think in America too many things would cause that rule to be derailed. Also, Germany has as much smaller and homogeneous population, so that works better.

I am a person who is all for free education..in theory. Like Amanda, I do not believe it would be beneficial to provide the United States with free education because we as the tax papers would suffer. However, I do wish the government would make it so that we are not in such crippling debt once our education is over.
  •
As much as I would love to see free education, it would not be free because it would come down to the average tax payer to pay for it. I do however wish to see lower interest rates.
  •
I wish education could be 100% free. Everyone is always pushing us younger people to pursue a college degree without knowing that college isn't just a sign up and go kind of thing. You have to pay thousands of dollars either out of pocket or by federal funding.

Education Should Be Free for Everyone - 2 views

  •
Information can readily be absorbed when it is relevant to human purpose. The proper focus of authentic education is not ingestion and disgorgement of information like trained seals clapping their flippers on command but a development process that leads to critical thinking and life-long learning skills.

I agree, many other countries already have free education. I bet the wage gap would definitely benefit from the country having a free education system in the United States.
  •
I agree with this I think education should always be free. Everyone should be able to get a decent education even if they are not financially well off.
  •
I feel there would be more to benefit from having a higher population of educated individuals. These people would have more to contribute to society and the economy, so there would be more to gain in the long run.
  •
I agree with this education should be free. Lots of people don't go to college for the fact that they cant afford to go. President Biden has canceled student loans which I think was really good of him to do. I know people who are in debt due to this.

Education overall has so many social issues carved into it, cost being one of the major ones. Even just cutting down the cost would help. but we are one of the most expensive countries to attend college in. Like the article you linked states, student loans and the excessive amount people spend on an education results in them becoming bankrupt before even starting out.

It's Too Expensive to Go to College Anymore - 0 views

  •
America is the land where all your hopes and dreams can come true. Anyone with a drive to learn more should have an equal and fair opportunity to attend college. We could only fantasize about free college education. Student debt is expected to rise from $35,000 to $45,000 in the next generation and will only continue to go up. A college degree is worth so much more than a college degree. A good education is valuable. Although the price may be high, you will be rewarded by help for the future. Joseph, M. (2013) It's too expensive to go to college anymore. Available at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marc-joseph/its-too-expensive-to-go-t_b_3935231.html (Accessed: 12 September 2016). The website is about the arguments that revolve around having fshowree education, the good and the bad side. It illustrated that president Obama and Bernie Sanders wanted to make college free for students and it shows the two perspectivies.
  •
I really do think that there could be more benefits to free collage than negatives, that is until I read this article. So many valid points, its hard to know who's side I'm really on.
  •
This article splitting the pros and cons of free college was a interesting way for the reader to determine after reading whether they agree or disagree.

The high cost of college eliminates many would-be students. Free college should be available to all according to president hopeful Bernie Sanders.

Free higher education - 0 views

This article argues the point that higher education should be free for a couple reasons. One of the reasons is why pay more to take the required classes for a specific field when once in the field the training received is very different. The author also suggests a solution to cutting the cost for higher education and improving the quality .

Republicans Have Declared War Against Social Justice on College Campuses - 1 views

  •
Conservative Republican lawmakers introduce bills to censor ethnic cultural classes on K-12 and College campuses.
  •
I heard about that. That is a violation of the freedom of speech and expression.
  •
I heard about this the other day and was blown away by it. It made me laugh that this Rep. thought that ethnic or cultural classes insight violence and discrimination. In my opinion, they do just the opposite. When you learn about another culture you are able to understand their background more. It creates an environment in which understanding occurs and you are better informed on the struggles of a specific ethnic group. Being informed is never a bad thing and if someone thinks it is then clearly they need to take a few ethnic cultural classes to get rid of that ignorance.

Child Labor - 2 views

  •
In this article it speaks upon the issue of children who are forced to be working due to the high cost of education. This can be harmful to a child's health physically and mentally.

This article provides a great amount of detail that is associated with child labor and what is needed to have the world free of child labor. Out of all the suggestions provided by the authur, "unified global action" was the one that stood out to me the most.
  •
It sadden me to see that some children have it worse then others. Myself as a college student and working gets overwhelming, I couldn't imagine how children younger feel.
  •
I believe child labor is a form of abuse. If a child is not old enough to have the mental capacity to be working, it is not fair. It is also dangerous to allow children to do many kinds of work.
