The social platform Google+ has some excellent integrated tools that students can draw on to study collaboratively. Two of these tools are Circles and Hangout. The Circles feature allows users to create group of contacts with whom they can easily converse and share materials. Google Hangout allows you to hold video conferences with a limited group of people. The great thing I like about Google Hangout is the things you can do while using it. NBC Learn has launched this website called Finishing the Dream. It chronicles the h istory of the civil rights movement. It includes more then 100 stories from NBC News archives. Materials include documentaries on significan events over the course of 60 years, including the Montgomery bus boycott; the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.; the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas; the Freedom Riders; and more. The content provides the opportunity for community leaders, teachers, and students to discuss the impact of the civil rights movement and to consider related modern issues that affect people today.

Terminix has launched an educational website with insect lessons. The website is built around the character Harry, a praying mantis who guides visitors through resources for teachers and students. The educator center provides teachers with curriculum guides and lesson plans, created by entomologists at Audubon Insectarium and Terminix, that correlate with National Science Teacher Association standards.

This site has some good materials and teaching resources for teaching cyber safety. I noticed that there are resources all the way to Kindergarten and more coming.

Schoo Tube is a great way for teachers and studetns to watch videos, upload videos, create a Free channel, enter contests, and receive the video of the day.

I have used this site to upload videos created by teachers and students. I haven't seen anything inappropriate on it. I know it is monitored because I believe the video had to be previewed before it was released onto the site.

this site is a free online listing of grants available for K-12 schools and teachers. Grant Wrangler can be especially helpful as school technology budgets tighten. Grants can be searched by keyword or by deadline. The news bulletins are updated daily and contain direct links to applications that are available online. Teachers and administrators can also subscribe to Grant Wrangler's daily e-mail blast, which lists up-to-date grant opportunities.

The World's largest collection of Holocaust documents is going digital: Israel's Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem, is teaming up with Google to make its photographs and documents interactive and searchable on the internet. This collection will include 130,000 photos that now can be searched directly from goodle. In the future the collection will expand to other parts of the memorial's vast archives and will include survivor testimonies.

Geograffiti creats voice-marks - audio postings to specific map locations. For example, a history teacher assigns his students to create an audio tour about local history. The students go to various historical monuments and buildings in the community and then phone in historical summaries of the significance of these sites to Geograffiti, which places the oral recordings in the appropriate geographic locations on the map. This activity would enable students to research local history, pratice public speaking, and learn geography in one assignment.

Mobile Geotagging allows users to post media (photos, video, audio or text) from a mobile phone to a specific point on a map. Flagr allows users to create public, semiprivate, or private maps. Great tool for teachers in many subject areas to enhance learning. For example, students studying habitats or different biological species can take pictures within their community and then send each picture band a description of where the habitat or species was found. In the classroom the teacher opens up the class flagr map and the students then identify the species and discuss why they were found in each particular habitat.
