An interview with Omar Khouri, a political artist/cartoonist. The interview goes in depth of what Khouri mainly draws/paints and where his inspirations come from. 

This article also focuses on the Sad Panda, specifically on one art work where it shows a solider throwing a baby into a fire. The piece garnered a lot of attention. Attached to this article is a video, talk about where the artist got the inspiration from.

The article mentions the refusal of an opera production to go on as a way of making a statement against Morsi and the brotherhood. The Orchestra conductor named Nayer Nagui addressed the audience and said "We have decided to abstain from putting  on tonight's performance of Aida...until the Minister of Culture is removed." The newly appointed Minister of Culture was given by Morsi to Alaa Abdel Aziz who was altering the message and production of the show. The show according to Aziz was not following appropriate or respectful interpretations of Islam. 

Muftah was first launched in May of 2010 as a way of push back against the Western media potrayl of the Middle East. According to the Muftah mission statement, the West has failed to provide diverse viewpoints, and it is things like Muftah that can really make a difference. According to the mission, Muftah focuses on original content by using diverse individuals to tell the story.

This artifact is a picture of an article titled "The Writings on the Wall," a piece about Hend Kheera, an Egyptian street artist, who grew in popularity during the revolution. She speaks about the focus of her work and what it means for the future.

This article is about the anonymous artist who has created the Sad Panda, a character who is splashed onto the walls of Egypt to depict the experience of loss and mourning for those who have given up their lives.

This was an interesting video because it interviewed dozens of artists and groups that are drawing, painting and spray painting graffiti art in Egypt. It gives insight to why these people feel the need to express themselves and why they are drawing what they do.

Alaa Awad is a prominent Egyptian street artist who has focused and specialized on women and the Port Said massacre. He was one of the collaborating artists on the famous mural on Mohamed Mahmoud Street, which depicts beautiful, unclothed, ancient women climbing a ladder that represents the revolution.

This was an interesting website because it not only showed around thirty pictures of Egyptian graffiti, but it also gave you the option to click on other countries to see what their artists were doing. I think that this is important to see how Egyptian artists ideas, symbols and meanings translated over to other African countries.

This was is an article that describes some of the most important graffiti art in great detail, along with some inside news. Ms. Grondahl talks about the mural that was made after the soccer massacre in Port Said, as well as a specific piece of art that was altered by some pro-military artists who erased the original message, although it was repainted over again.
