Good tips to reflect as you prepare/evaluate your online presence in a blended/online course. "The fundamentals that define a great teacher don't differ much whether classes are taught in the online setting or off, but there are certain things that need greater emphasis and gain greater importance when a teacher is working with students who aren't in a traditional classroom setting."

Linda Yollis, an award-winning 3rd grade teacher, made this video with her students to share how they have used blogs to learn the importance of connecting online with others online, about Digital Footprints and Internet safety, and sharing their voice. I think you'll enjoy it and hopefully think about the ways you encourage students to make their writing/learning visible and connect with others, whether it be a blog or an interactive online discussion. 

The post really points to the possible pitfalls of online courses. It also suggests the importance of examining & evaluating the effectiveness of online courses - including the teacher's pedagogy and instructional methods - and student receptiveness, level of engagement, and success in courses. The comments after the post provide a lively discussion. Blended learning seems to get high marks.

Helpful look at some of the reasons we need to help students learn how to engage in online content through blended and asynchronous learning environments.

The two I'm especially interested in are BigMarker and JoinMe. JoinMe is a good way to share screens and to actually work on someone else's computer. BigMarker gives the ability to do voice/video conferencing. Richard Byrne suggests using it to provide online tutoring, brainstorming sessions, and other online presentations. You can have a public or private meeting room, can share screens, and it comes with a white board you & others can draw on. I saw something that indicated you could upload docs & share those, as well. Lots to consider trying.

Times and Learning Network content as well as offerings from Common Sense Media's K-12 Digital Literacy and Citizenship curriculum for teaching and learning about this complex issue." Lots of avenues to take this material in working with students.

iCivics has just released its seventeenth educational game for students. The new game is called We The Jury. We The Jury puts students in the role of a juror for two trials. Looks like a great activity for students. I would also use it and have discussion groups. Those using an LMS with online discussions or Collaborize Classroom, this would be a great online activity for interactive discussions.

Some cool tools to edit video online - some will allow downloading in different formats after the editing is completed. This makes it easy then to upload into Prezis, Schooltube, or Google Docs, and then share the videos.

Dean Shareski brings up a vital discussion around the fears we have in "publishing" online and what this space is really for: CONVERSATION. Take the time to read this, as it will impact the way we help students with publishing online.

Some great ways for students to create and publish presentations online. Some allow you to embed video in them, as well.

A free service providing access to more than 8,000 free books and essays written by more than 3,500 authors. The titles available through Read Print are generally works that are in the public domain or have Creative Commons licensing. The collection of works contains many of the classics in fiction and non-fiction literature. In addition to books, poems, and essays you can also find plays on Read Print. You can search by author, title, or quotation for titles on Read Print. Once you've found what you're looking for you can print all or parts of your chosen title or read it online using the Read Print viewer.

Designed to help you find and watch documentary films online. You can browse through 1700+ films on Free Documentary TV or enter search terms to find a film of interest to you. The majority of the films are served through the YouTube player so you can watch them on Free Documentary TV or on YouTube. Applications for Education:  If you do find a film that you like and it's hosted on YouTube, I recommend using View Pure or Schooltube to display it in your classroom without showing the "related content" and advertisements that appear on YouTube.

Free Remote Desktop, Web Conferencing & Online Meetings - great tool for sharing desktops. I'll be using it for desktop support, but it would also be cool to use

Great editor and easy to use. Try editing the sample pictures. I also like using Pixlr as an online editor.
