StoryCorps' mission is to preserve and share humanity's stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world. We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone's story matters. At the same time, we are creating an invaluable archive for future generations.From the everyday to the extraordinary, personal interviews get kids listening. Teachers of most any grade level or subject area could use the interviews on StoryCorps as a community-building activity at the start of the year. For example, play one of the interviews on a common theme like friendship, romance, or family, and then use it as a discussion or writing prompt. Although stories are predominantly sourced from America, other countries and cities are represented.

"There are different ways you can include read-alouds within your classroom routines. You can use them as a warm-up for the day's lesson or integrate them as part of a larger unit of study about reading or writing effectively. Students can even use read-alouds themselves to go on self-guided reading and writing journeys. I'll share with you a lesson where I used a read-aloud to teach writing and then share examples of independent interdisciplinary projects that students can do."

The site does not appear to be maintained but the archives are well worth exploring to delve into picture book illustration. From the author: My intention is to discuss picturebooks, in particular the pictures in them! Why? Because, in ELT we tend to select picturebooks because they contain words our students might know. I plan to write something a couple of times a month, sharing what I discover in my readings; describe new titles I come across; discuss particular illustrators and their styles and generally promote the picture in picture books.

Storytelling in any format is about making meaning. While the essence of the stories we tell may remain the same, the ways in which we can now share these stories have changed dramatically with the development of digital communication technologies. Access to simple, easy to use media production tools and resources in conjunction with the potential for immediate and universal online publication has significant implications for literacy thinking and practice.

This article outlines round robin reading and highlights its disadvantages. Oral reading does improve fluency, comprehension and word recognition (though silent/independent reading should occur far more frequently as students advance into the later grades). Fortunately, other oral reading activities offer significant advantages over RRR and its cousins. As you'll see in the list many of them share similar features but encourage and support all readers.
