Using Evernote for classroom portfolios. I like this use of a great tool for more than just sharing and capturing your own work. This is a nice systematic use of a tool for multi-purposes. 

Another screencasting tool. Jing is by TechSmith who makes Camtasia (the best tool but $300). Unfortunately/fortunately Jing limits screencasts to 5 minutes. Really forces focused video production which is actually a good thing. 

Online spreadsheet tool. Always worth sharing. Decent graphics tools, but not as intuitive or as easy as Excel. If you don't have access to Excel, not a bad alternative. 

We introduced Diigo to WJHS this summer and I thought I would pass this news along to everyone, but especially that group. I still think Diigo is an incredible tool for collaboration in the classroom for research, group work/accountability, formative assessment, reaching beyond classroom walls both with students and colleagues. Additionally, Sean does some nice simple video production (with totally FREE tools) that I want to share with other teachers. It's easy to do, is a way of getting information to your students easily and in a manner that allows them to access the information as many times as they like/need.

How do I know if my use is a fair use? This tool has been developed to help teachers and students reason through the fair use process. You can see an example of how this tool is being used HERE Use the form online. The data from this form feeds into a google spreadsheet so you can compare how individuals or groups reason the fair use of copyrighted material in a work. Great app for having students create an educational product. I know Apple says it's a business app, but it has the kinds of multi-media tool compilation that makes for great education tool.  Students can easily capture/create an image on the iPod, annotate or draw on it while they narrate, and most importantly of all students can then email it to the teacher.  Not only can they create, they can share!

If you like Wallwisher, you'll love this new tool. It is Wallwisher with more space and flexibility. I love this tool! It's in Beta and free at this time. I don't expect that it will remain that way.

New tool for drawing. The drawing can be 'replayed' allowing students/teachers to tell a story or to make connections between parts of the drawing. Great visual imagery tool! Great for modeling multiple representations in mathematics.

Nice tool for organizing your facebook feed to look like a newspaper. If you don't like the linear display used by facebook then this is a great tool. I wonder if Facebook will be buying this site in the near future. 

Another potential tool to use with your students. It's like twitter in that it is a microblogging tool, but is meant solely for educators and students. You create an account and a group that your students join. I don't know how to use it yet but it does seem to have potential.

For content teachers who need help detecting plagarism. It's not a GOTCHA tool, but a tool for students to use to help them understand how to write without plagarism. It brings to their attention that they haven't paraphrased their writings yet.

Doesn't really talk about the actual tool as much as make some comparisons to other web 2.0 tools and discuss why Diigo is more of an innovation.

An interesting little article that presents classes of tools to achieve some specific goals for presenting project based learning tools.

Now we are talking not only an organization tool but a creativity tool. In the process or organzing my materials, I'm creating those connections and webbing of links to where and why I post material in multiple places (3 ring binder tabs). I like it. I also like that it's drag and drop. I need to play some more with this one!

I just added all fifteen tools to my library but thought I should probably add the article where I got them all from as well. I think the article is a little overly supportive but at least the sites are interesting. I do like the premise of creating instructional routines that can be supported as paperless. I would like to see the conversation about how to create the entire routine from getting students to the site, letting them do their thing, get feedback to/from the teacher, reflect, repeat/progress... I think that is an area that teachers need help in thinking through.

The United States General Services Administration (GSA) and the White House Open Government Initiative are soliciting your feedback on a concept for next generation citizen consultation, namely a government-wide software tool and process to elicit expert public participation (working title "ExpertNet"). ExpertNet could: Enable government officials to circulate notice of opportunities to participate in public consultations to members of the public with expertise on a topic. Provide those volunteer experts with a mechanism to provide useful, relevant, and manageable feedback back to government officials. The proposed concept is intended to be complementary to two of the ways the Federal government currently obtains expertise to inform decision-making, namely by convening Federal Advisory Committees and announcing public comment opportunities in the Federal Register. We are looking for you to provide: Any refinements or suggestions you have to improve the process as described; Any issues (legal, policy, technical) raised by the features described; Any tools that you know of that perform the process described in that step; Any organizations (public or private) that have a similar platform in place.
