The Middle School Portal 2: Math and Science Pathways project (MSP2) is a component of the National Science Digital Library (NSDL) that supports middle school educators and youth by offering contextualized, high-quality resources and promotes interactivity, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among its users.

Read Steve Fulton's approach to researching with his middle school students as they were reading the Hunger Game. I love his approach to incorporating the book, what students already knew, Diigo for sharing, summarizing, and gathering data, and then the writing process. In my opinion, this is how it should be, the focus is on writing not the use of technology. The technology just helps achieve the goal more effectively. 

I'm not an English teacher, but this approach to writing with middle schools students makes great sense to me! I love the tools he is using with his students. It doesn't do the work for them but lets the students focus on figuring out the important information instead of how to format the paper! 

A nice discussion of mind-set in middle schoolers and intentionally working to develop a student's ability to believe they can achieve and to work hard to achieve the goal of success. 

Kidblog.org is designed for elementary and middle school teachers who want to provide each student their own, unique blog. It's SAFE, simple, and free (at least at this time). You can set up your students without student email addresses!

I love this idea and am unashamedly going to steal it to use. I think it's important to have students reflect on their writing and their work, what better place to do it than on the writing themselves with highlights and sticky notes  using Diigo, BRILLIANT!

...benefits of using trade books is increasing student engagement. High quality trade books are written as to spark interest and create a desire to read. Many contain colorful, interesting illustrations, photographs, and diagrams, all of which draw students into the text and improve comprehension.

Shanghai American School's blogs. The school seems to have adopted the blogging platform and you can see how different teachers are using the platform to accomplish different goals/objectives. Interesting site to visit and create a conversation about how you might use the tool/extend what they are doing/adapt what you are doing/want to do.
