Link to "Earth Science Literacy Principles Guide." The Earth Science Literacy framework document of Big Ideas and supporting concepts is a community effort representing the current state-of-the-art research in Earth sciences. It has been written, evaluated, shaped, and revised by the top scientists working in Earth science. Because of its validity, authority, and succinct format, the ESL framework will be influential in a wide variety of scientific, educational, and political settings. Future governmental legislation will be guided by it, and future national and state educational standards will be based upon it. - comment by Brent Petersen

Directly from Time Magazine: "Like Google Earth for the heavens, WWT aggregates terabytes of astronomical data from the world's biggest telescopes to create a single virtual scope that anyone can look through. WWT is not a model of the known universe, but rather a centralized repository for just about everything known about the universe. The idea is to democratize the science of astronomy with a single tool that can be used by students and scientists. Who knows, when everyone has access to the same data, maybe the next big discovery in astronomy will be made by an amateur? There are hundreds of terabytes of digitized sky - enough data for everyone. "

WorldWide Telescope is Microsoft's answer to Google Earth and Google Sky. It's pretty cool and does a lot of stuff that I don't understand but am sure someone interested in astronomy would love. I look at it and think about using the zooms of planets to have student calculate the size of some features knowing the scale. It's not utilizing the total power of the software, but it gets me in the door, makes it a cool activity for the students, and creates a little love to science in a math class. i can live with that!

Digital library for Earth system education with grade level and content resources. 

NASA generated website with pictures, podcasts, blog posts of current happenings around the world. I explored one example, the recent Tsunami. Great pictures of the island and of showing the wave in the ocean! Also, great story accompanying the pics. I, also, loved the interactive global map with the geolocated pictures. Although I haven't listened to the Science for the Hungry World podcast, I subscribe to several NASA podcasts and think they are great for teaching!

Some very interesting animations for use with iwbs

A group of amateur radio enthusiats launch an HD video camera into space and track it back down to earth. I think it's incredible and a great example of what people with an interest in something can do. What could we do if we gave students goals like this to accomplish? Any thoughts about how we use this incredible example of curiosity with students? Also, note that they send it to space, share their work via YouTube, blog about it, get picked up on the Discovery channel for relatively little cost!

Video lectures from universities across the country. Lecture is not the most engaging format, but a great resource for those interested in exploring topics in more depth on their own, but not a great model for engaging presetation for 60-90 minutes.

Great set of resources that might be interesting to people who want to explore some topics on their own, or want to include some aspects of the lectures in their classes. I think there is a HUGE potential for using this content some how.
